what cam for a 350??

I've got a '78 350 and need a good (preferably cheap) low-end (more low-RPM torque) cam. What should I go with? Give me part #'s if possible. Thanks a ton!

i got crane energizer with .454" and 216 degrees of duration it seems to be bad ass in my 350, but you can get the summit cam for about 79 doallars i think, i wouldn't get a cam with more than 220 degrees of dur, you might try the comp xtreme 4x but they cost a little more <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep1.gif" border="0">

Just bought a cam for my buddy's 350 like what you are looking for at Auto Zone.
Made by Melling. 204/214, about .422/.448 lift I think. W/lifters and lube, 90 bucks. Not as cheap as a kit from Summit, but not bad if you need it now and don't want to wait.

Just ask for their "performance 350 cam" by Melling.

Comp Extreme Energy 4x4---love it!!!! I'll go see if I can find the cam card, but it pulls awesome. Feels like a little big block!

Cheap is not the way to go when selecting a cam for your motor. They don't call the cam the brain of your motor for nothing. Comp Cams Xtreme energy cam is a great choice, but you need to select a cam that matches the mods to your motor. If you are running a basic short block and stock heads the meling cam is a good upgrade, but if you have replaced heads and your intake you need to match your cam to your mods, weight of your vehicle, gears, tranny. Don't make the mistake of so many and just throw parts together and hope they run well. Just a newbie's 2cents.

Comp Cams HE 260 would work if you don't want to spend for the X-treme series. Course if cost is no object get a Comp roller cam...or just add a supercharger or get both!

I went eith an Edlebrock Performer cam. I am happy with this thing in the 383 it runs better than I thaught it would.

I have an edelbrock performer intake and had thought about their cam.

The Edelbrock 2102 is very much the same spec. as the Melling cam, but it's 30 bucks more....

I understand concerns about "cheap" stuff, but keep in mind that most of the high-volume oil pumps out there are made by Melling.

My buddy hasn't run the engine much yet, but it sounds great. Will update after he's got it broke in. <IMG SRC="smilies/cool.gif" border="0">
