Help, on my way to the pit tonight we stopped for some McDonalds and after eating we go out to head on our way and no start. Spins over fine. It's making fuel pressure to the filter. We removed the 6 gun still nothing. It spins like nothing but just won't fire over. Truck was running fine when it was shut off (recorded 20.3 mpg at 70 mph) but now it won't start. Truck is still at McDonalds any help would be great.

Same thing happened to my neighbor in his 2004 CTD. His needed a lift pump, they redesigned the pump to either put it in the tank, or take it out of the tank, can't remember which. His was covered by warranty for 10/100,000. Are you sure yours isn't?

I don't think 03 had a 10 100K warranty, I'll check though. Worth a shot. It's sitting at McDonald's still but we're going to gas rag it w/ the intake heater off and 14 volts on the starting system to see if we can limp it home.

Lift pump that's up on the filter housing or near it I think. The new ones go in the tank. Mine did the exact same thing. You can actually bypass the stock lift pump and it will run, but what happens is when the lift pump dies, it blocks the passages off and doesn't let fuel to the injection pump.

I don't think this is a good idea..

Get a buddy with a trailer to help you out. Post up in Gen chit chat or Gen 4x4 and you'll prob find someone willing to help you out. I'd hate to see you damage your truck any worse trying to limp it back home.

Update: went out, started right up today no problem, wasn't even slow to start, started just like normal. Drove back to the house, started no problem. Too weird. But something is wrong.

this is going to sound like a total newb retard thing to check, but make sure the Gear selector arm is tight and parking switch is not malfunctioning and tight... I've seen several trucks that "appeared" to be in park but were not.... the last one almost got my buddy run over. he got dragged about 8 feet by the radius arm because while he was under the truck and it "appeared in park" it dropped into reverse as he jumped out the starter relay and it fired up while he was under it.... He had spent a couple month diagnosing a "random" no start condition because the selector arm and the park switch were both worn/loose...

Did his truck turn over fine but not start? With the clutch out it won't crank or anything but when you push it in it cranks hard but didn't start. I'll check it out eitherway.

what clutch? I thought you said auto?

I'm no truck expert, but most newer trucks have an ignition circuit hooked to the clutch so it wont do anything unless it's pushed in...first thing I disable when i buy a stick :D

to answer your question, no it did nothing because the "park switch" cuts out hte starter soleniod so you can't start in gear, thats why as soon as he "jumped it" with the screwdriver it fired up. The shifter was barely hung into park and dropped into reverse as the engine fired. It was a Ford, but I've seen i on just about all kinds of trucks and would imagine the general concept is pretty standard across the board...

My bad was thinking stick typed auto in the confusion.

My neighbors truck did this 3 times to him before it finally left him stranded on the side of the road, died while driving. I'm layin' money on the lift pump!!!

I agree...common issue on that year Dodge. Geno's Garage has the stock transfer pump http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo....UMP_FPD4089602 or you can relocate it to the tank.

Lots of aftermarket options too, depending on what you want to spend..

Well?

Well it's started fine for the past 3 starts but a couple had one heck of a miss to it, sounded like fuel. I'm ordering up the transfer pump this week and will install this weekend.
