Im working on an 87 samurai with a crossover steering setup. Its a leaf over axle front setup with the drag link connected from the pitman arm to a high steering arm on top of te Passenger side knuckle above the leaf springs. Theres a tie rod on the bottom of the knuckle underneath the leaf springs connecting to both sides. The passenger tie rod end, connected to the drag link, is shot. I went to Autozone thinking it was a stock sammy tie rod end but it is actuall a bit bigger. The owner said he thinks the setup is from Rocky Road Outfitters.

I need to find which other vehicle uses the same size tie rod end so i can replace?

I hope my explanation makes sense. Any ideas what vehicle to ask for to replace? I would think it would be off a toyota but what year or make? It has a zerk fitting on top.

It might be this setup here except that the tie rod is underneath the leaf spring.

Call Tony at Rock Equipment, he built the original arms for RRO a few years back. I had the same set up that I purchased directly from him. If I remember correctly they were standard 1/2 ton chevy units. Don't quote me on that though.

Tony can be reached at 1-916-434-7887 or @ http://www.rockequipment.com/

Thank You, I sent RRO an email but its Sunday and i was hoping to get it done today. I thought maybe they would use a toyota setup but wasn't sure. I have a 1/2 ton chevy here at my shop, I'll check and see if it matches.

Thanks for the info, its greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure RRO use jeep tie-rod ends in their high-steer kits.

I took a look at a jeep wrangler in the parking lot a and the lower link didn't match. I already bought the upper link which was a direct samurai swap. Whats funny is that the lower link is bigger then the upper and the lower link went out before the upper one did. I'll contact RRo tomoorow and ask them directly. I was just hoping to get it done by today. Oh well.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure RRO uses a mini truck TRE

I replaced these not too long ago. The TRE's are from a Dodge PU, part #'s ES2848L and ES2847R.
The draglink is heep on one end and sammi on the other. Part #'s ES140R and ES3045R.

Any parts store will be able to get it from those numbers.
