Hello All,

New to this forum, but I'm looking for a 72-76 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. Don't know a whole lot about rebuilding one, but I would like to see what is out there for around $1500.

Also if you know of one year being better than the rest I would love to know that as well.

I live in the Charlotte, NC area, so something in NC or upstate SC would be preferred.

Thanks in advance,

You won't find much for that kind of money. And why 72-76? Later models get you front disk brakes and the larger knuckle bolt pattern. You may not need the extra strength of the larger bolt pattern and you may not need disk brakes- it depends on what you're going to do with it.

(Pssst. for general tutorials and frequently asked questions- check here----->www.cruiserfaq.com) Just keep reading and hitting the 'next' button.

Oh, and welcome newbie:flipoff2:

Good idea!!
I'm looking for a 65-82 FJ40 in decent condition for less than 4k myself. I would take one without an engine as well for significantly less.
I'm also in the market for any year FJ45 for less than 5k.
I'll take a rust free FJ55 for 2k.
I would like to find a Tom-Tom nav system as well...I'll pay 100 for that.
I could use a good tent to put up on the trailer..I'll pay 50 for that.
I could use a tubing bender and a lathe.

I'm also craving a pack of M&Ms...but I don't suppose Land Cruiser tech section is the place for that:rolleyes:

Thanks Luke, what year models do you advise? Not really looking for much, in ways of condition, something I can work on is fine. I did see a post and a link to one that sold for that price, it did have some rust, and even had a soft and hard top.

X2 what LukeZero said... even the parts rigs in that range in your "area" are $$$...

76-84 FJ40 are the better years. They came with 2f eng (bigger better eng), 4 spd and front disc brakes!

You should go to ih8mud.com classified section, but good luck finding one for $1500 though!

If you're going to keep it stock, a 75 and earlier can be smogless.

Thanks, Faroffroad, bigguy6907, I appreciate the help. I'll take a look on the other site. Hopefully I'll have some good pics for you over the next 6 months. Pooze I think you may be too far away.

76 to 84 are more rust prone too. I like the older FJ40s better. 69 is a good year. :flipoff2:
