Hey guys - I'm revampin my 82 K20. It's keeps poppin out of 4 low. I'm runnin 38's on 14B FF w/4:56 gears in the back, Dana 44 front. 700 R4 to NP 208. Maybe chain slack in the T case? Or it might be front drive shaft length? I got the truck from a friend a couple years back, and he never mudded it much, and I doubt the shafts were lengthened. Any ideas? Thanks,

my friends trucks do it that have 208s, when i had a 208 it was ok untill i slammed down on something with a little force, it would pop out

my 205 doesn't have that problem :D

one...
you dont need new gears. not yet.

you need to replace the plastic bushings on the slider for low range shift fork inside the case. if you dont replace the plastic bushings soon, you will need to replace the shift fork.

Make sure the shifter isn't hitting the tunnel. I had the same problem with my 203 and found it was just the shifter was out of adjustment and was hitting the sheetmetal before it could fully engage. A minute with a hammer took care of it until I got the ORD twin stick setup.

wouldnt it be kind of hard to twin stick a 208? it only has one shifter shaft. he doesnt have a 203. please dont confuse the issue.

Mr Grump, your dead on. Bushings are gone. Good thing I had an extra 208 if forgot about in the garage. Least I can wheel a little till I replace the bushings.

The issue wasn't the twin stick, the issue was the body rubbing the shifter when in low. Damn, you live up to your username... ;)

Yes, I do live up to my username. thats why i chose it. I also have a slight clue as to what Im talking about, and i despise people that give bad info.

If you examine the different designs of shifters between the np208 and the np203, you will find that the 208 shifters bolt to the body. the 203 shifter bolts to the transmission adapter.

what useless comparison you did manage to give was apples to oranges, not apples to apples.

Please take the time to understand that not all vehicle parts are designed the same, and when not designed the same, they have different properties that allow or disallow issues such as were questioned.

in other words... if you dont have a specific answer, then dont answer so you dont cloud the situation.

I dont know about the 208, but my 241 had a filter area that collected all the shavings

Guys - I appreciate all the help. I've been collecting parts for the past 5 years, and being in construction, up till about 6 months ago, I was busy all the time. I guess one positive side to the slow down in our work is I finally get weekends to work on my truck.
