So ive got an 89 F150 truck that has a 302 AOD. 4x4. Blew the motor. Ive got a line on a 75 lincoln 460 that runs good that ide like to swap in there. Question is, If i run another AOD how do i make the kick down cable work using a carb and not EFI?
If i must run a C6 the one i have for a 4x4 is bad, That same lincoln has a C6 but its a 2wd. If i ran that could i just swap the tail housinge to make the car trans accept the t case or is there more involved in doing that?
Thanks.

RE: C6, you have to swap both the rear output shaft and the adapter from the 4x4 C6 to the 2x4 C6. The output shaft comes out from the front of the trans, almost the last part out, first part in.

AODs are smallblock bolt pattern only, you won't find one to fit a 460.

Like Z5 said, it can be done. You'll need some patience and a good manual/dvd. Look here: http://www.badshoeproductions.com/

The guys are right on the money here. If you are going to swap the shafts, you might as well buy a rebuild kit that way all is fersh and you'll basically be doing all the labor anyway. Definetly buy a video, it will make it easy. You'd be suprised just how easy the C-6 is to build.
You will need the tool to compress the clutches for assembly. You could probably rent one. I would also invest in the one-way roller clutch as the brass ring that holds it together is usually worn out.
If you want info on a homebrew shift kit, Pm me, I can make em shift great for about $2 in parts.
On a side note... I have some fancy Zinc plated Bling bling L&L Motor mount perches for putting 460's in those things. If you need em, I'd let em go cheap. However they are for going from 300-6 to 460. I don't know if you'd need them if you have a small block already. Maybe someone else could tell you.

Well ide really like to run an OD unit as this trucks primary function will be to serv as a work vehicle. Right now, Im driving roughly 900 miles a week. I think an OD is a much needed thing for gas sakes. I was informed that the
E4OD is going to be my only option. Guess ide need some sort of a control modual to get er to shift using a carbed engine. Any ideas on all this? Thanks for all the C6 info but im not sure i can live with out the OD.

Let me get this straight, you want the 460 and good gas mileage? That's funny, you're joking, right?
do not, i repeat do not run a AOD with a 460, even if it does fit.
Im on my 3rd AOD-E with a 302 at 155k miles.
