Had an interesting conversation with another guy here in Co that has his FFL-07/SOT.

We got around to talking about demo letters and he tells me that you don't need a demo letter to 'manufacturer' an FA item.

You need a demo to transfer a post 86 to another SOT holder, but you can make one no problem.

He submitted a Form 2 on an AR lower and got it back a month later.

So I think I am going to try and submit an AR lower and see what happens. If it goes through I will send in a homemade Sten tube and an S12. If asked I will explain that I need them for R&D for the suppressors I am designing.

Anyone know how hard it would be to put a 4-position lower into a GSG-5?

I was looking at the paperwork a little while back, surfing through various forms, waiting for ATF to actually get an application to me, and found that there's some allowance for "scientific research" or some such on one of the forms as a reason for making a machine gun. Obviously, it could only be transferred in accordance with NFA, but that'd be the workaround for needing a demo letter for something that doesn't yet exist.

I think Gil had talked about swapping an HK lower into his. I don't know much about either of those guns, though.

My understanding is that an 07/SOT can only have one MG 'demo' for a particular type of rifle...One AR type, one AK type, etc. You cant have ten 'demo' ARs.

The MP5 trigger did not get swapped. He talked about having to add a filler to the lower and bed the GSG trigger into it.
