Ok I have a 95yj 4cylauto. I just parted out a 87yj 6cyl auto. I kept the tcase. The plate said 231 AMC. its 23 spline and the input sticks out approx 1.5 inches. My goal is to rebuild this tcase so when I do my 8.8swap it will be ready to bolt in and limit downtime. I plan on going with the jb super short sye. I have been told I can use parts from the 241c out of a chevy to make the 231 stronger. the 6planetary gear and the hubs for the wider chain. does anyone have a link for this? has anyone else tried this? I was told it should piece together just order new chain. Any and all advice is welcome . Thanks Any links appreciated

I used to run the stock 231 with 37's and beat on it with no problems. I now run a Teralow with an Advance Adapters SYE and wide chain(231HD/241) with a steel shift fork. Also have another transfer case for going to the dunes with the 231HD planetary, steel shift fork, sye, and wide chain. Just find a Chevy 231HD and take the chain sprockets, front output, chain, planetary, and shift fork out of it. I picked up the 2 that I used to steal parts from for $100

FWIW I ran a 231 with a JB Conversions SYE and everything else stock. 2.5L - SM240 - NP231 - 60's - 40" Goodyears. Never had a problem.
