Hi I'm looking for some info here on Reid Racing Knuckles for a Dana 60. I want to know if a Chevy 1/2 ton caliper and bracket will work on the Ford knuckle without grinding on the knuckle? Does anybody run this and do you have any pictures? Thanks.

Doubtful without major modification. The problem isnt clearance, the RR ford knuckle is already clearanced for 1/2 ton brakes(based off bronco knuckle). the problem is that the ford claiper bracket/spindle uses a 5 bolt pattern where the chevy uses 6 bolt. I suppose you may be able to redrill it, but if youre buying new knuckles, why not just get the ones that fit.

And sorry for the hijack, but ive got a slightly related question and dont want to start a new thread.

Will F250 caliper brackets/spindles etc work with the RR knuckle without modification? RR makes the only ford 44 replacement knuckle that I know of and Id like to upgrade what Ive got. My guess is yes since the 3/4 ton knuckles are mostly the same dimensions but larger on the backside/ie not clearanced for 1/2 ton brakes. Wondering if anyone has tried it.

Why is it a problem if the spindle has 5 or 6 bolts. I'm not following you. I found brackets that will fit a Ford spindle with a Chevy 1/2 brake caliper. I'm just wondering since I already ordered the Ford RR knuckles if this is all going to work or am I'm going to be returning the knuckles now. So the RR Ford knuckles will fit with a 1/2 ton caliper?

Sorry for the confusion, in your first post, you mentioned caliper AND bracket. The brackets wont swap because the bolt pattern is different. the spindle has the same bolt pattern as the caliper bracket. you couldnt us a chevy caliper bracket with a ford spindle for example. But yes, the RR Ford knuckles are based off the Bronco/F150 Supercab knuckle and are clearanced to run 1/2 ton brakes to be compatible with 5x5.5 bolt patterns. I am not certain on the compatibility between chevy and ford 1/2 claipers, but imagine they would swap over.

To clarify, what setup ARE you running. My guess is youre trying to maintain a 5x5.5 bolt pattern, but a little more info could be helpful.

I'm running a 91 Ford Dana 60. I just ordered the Reid Racing Ford knuckles. Yes I am trying to maintain the 5x5.5 bolt pattern as that is what my rear 60 is. Chevy calipers, Ford spindles, Ford caliper brackets will work with the Chevy calipers, 35 spline outers, lockouts, etc. The axle is just a housing right now. I'm in the ordering phase of my build. Just trying to make sure everything I order is going to work. I think you pretty much answered my question. I just didn't want to start grinding on brand new knuckles if I could just return them and get the Chevy ones.

So now back at square 1?

haha sorry, dont know why my mind went there automatically. I think it was becasue I was having a discussion about fitting 15s on a 44/14b shortly before.

But my guess is that they will work. Ive been lookgin at pics of both the ford and GM/doge knuckles and they look identical with the exception of the bracket/spindle bolt pattern.

That was pretty simple to find out...

then there is this little tidbit:

"Ford versions are based on the stronger Chevy casting: they will accept factory Ford spindles and brakes, but they use the lower Chevy style steering arm and Chevy tie rod taper. Some steering modifications may be needed on Ford applications, call for details "

I read the same thing and saw those pictures but I never caught the bolt pattern for the spindles! Well I guess that answers it. Thanks!
