Doing that, you will have redo the exhaust system also. Much easier to find a drivers drop front axle

83-86 chevy trucks had 10 bolts for front axles. dana 44 axles for chevy trucks were not used after 1979.
you COULD... if you were so inclined... find a passenger drop np241 from a suburban vintage 88-91 that was a bolt in, but as stated above, you will have to address the exhaust.
if youre gonna bolt in a dana 44, get a 77-79 ford 3/4 ton dana 44 from a camper special 4x4 with a high pinion and leaf spring mounts. the leaf spring pads are 32.5 inches apart, just like GMs, they have 8 lugs, funky brakes, and you can swap all GM parts from knuckles out right onto it.
You could even get a flat top knuckle setup from 70-76 GM 3/4 tons and install the knuckle, then install 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton outers *(brake rotors, hubs, spindles).
nothing but nuts and bolts..

you're doing a solid axle swap in a 1500, and keeping the 10 bolt? if you're truck is going to be big enough to warrant a solid axle swap, do yourself a favor and put big boy axles under it from the get go. i've got about $700 into a 10 bolt front that i havent even fully assembled yet, and i already know its getting swapped for a 60 at some point.

Well, you just said you had a 10 bolt. Well, actually, you said you had a D44 from a 83+ Chevy, and if you had bothered to read the information that had already been given you, you would know that there weren't any Chevy D44 front ends after 79.
Don't ask questions if you aren't going to read the answers, and especially don't contradict Grumpy. They're still looking for the last Noob that did that.
