I just finished my propane kit on my truck and im really happy with it but when its cold it seems like the only way i can get it to start is with brake clean. I havnt done much tuning with it yet. i know the timing is supposed to be advance but it ran ok as is with no pinging, and seemed to have tons of power, so i left it.
The only thing i can figure is that my vacume line to the vacume lock is T'd. the throttle plate i have only has one small vacume line so i had to run that to the vac. advance and the vac. lock. maybe this is the problem?
Also i noticed is that at idle is seems like the mixer makes a hight pitched whistle/ hiss noise. Dont have any big vacume leaks

do you have the electric solenoid setup? if not, you'll need to hold down the purge button on the mixer. It'll start a hell of a lot faster that way. Apeters89 Jeep does the same thing.

What system are you running? Have you tried the prime button? I have a electric primer on my set-up that primes the system every time the starter is engaged. Works perfect except when it is very cold out. (Below zero). When it is real cold sometimes it will flood because the big block wont turn over fast enough. When this happens, I remove the air filter and hold open the diaphragm so the air to fuel mix can return to normal. Then it will usually fire. It helps to have a friend that can turn the key while you mess with the mixer. I'm going to install a remote start switch in the engine compartment so I can do this by myself.

Ummm yea where did you get the kit? My got propane kit started right up when cold, just push the pedal to the floor crank for a second or two and vroom vvvvrrromm. check you mixture screw you might be a little to lean. If it came from Cary at gotpropane.com then call him, he is awesome with customer service and helping get systems going. Ryan

my set up is a impco 425 mixer, model E evaporator, and an EFF-40? its the vacume style lock.
I just looked at my mixer and didnt see a purge where is it located?

Ok so i found the purge button you guys were talkin about. my Evaprator is up high on my firewall so i just cut a small access hole right at the top of the fire wall big enough for my hand to fit through. Hit the button and it fired right up.
I still get that high whistle/ hiss noise at idle. once i get on it, it goes away but its pretty anoying at idle

Also when it's not started for a while the propane will settle in the tank. So like said above when I go to start it for the first time in the morning I just put the pedal to the floor until it starts.

The directions I've seen say to not hit the pedal before starting the motor. Is this the case? Has any damage been done to the diaphragms by pumping it first?
