600 going to be produced...waste of devolopmental money IMO. produce more, before i got laid off i had the creditials and the income to get one....
Davethorik 05-12-2009, 04:19 PM and we wonder why american car makers are not faring so well...let's keep cranking out these low production, limited appeal, limited use, and overpriced vehicles. Sounds like a good plan. :shaking:
desertwheeler 05-12-2009, 04:31 PM Um where did you see the limited production info? I dont think thats right. Everything i have seen didnt mention that. I can't wait to see how its does, especially with the 400 HP v8

Ford is still doing better than the others, but not by much. And overpriced, you bet. But that's part of the new F-150 anyways. I'm not a fan of the F-150, but I'd buy that one if I had the money. Considering what's offered to the public as "Off Road" capable trucks, the Raptor shows promise. The Toyota TuRD is a joke, the Z-71 has been a farce since the late 80's, Dodge has a pretty sticker, and Nissan's are made of gold. At least the sticker price leads you to believe that. And God knows the last thing the world needs is another model of Jeep on the road.
A 400-horse Raptor would be fine with me...if it weren't for the price. For $42,000 it better come with a roll cage. Because that truck would see some flight time.

The Dodge Power Wagon is slightly more than just a pretty sticker, and can be bought new for the low 30's, with the new 400 horse 5.7 too.
Proeliator 05-12-2009, 08:21 PM my bad it was 6000, so what one zero
Wow, when Ford makes a production truck putting out 6k hp even I will buy it. Somebody needs to lay off the crack :shaking:

It also doesn't have all the luxury crap, and a car-like ride. When you build a truck like a truck is supposed to be, they're cheap. The reason the Raptor is so high is all the frilly shit they threw into it. Bells and whistles.

So the Raptor is full of frilly shit and luxuries with a car like ride??
Here I was thinking the Raptor was designed for high speed off roading, what with it's locking diff, heavier duty rear axle, wider track with long travel front suspension, fox shocks etc. Shit you're right, it's a bimmer in disguise:shaking:

Hmm...I don't recall saying that the Raptor had a car-like ride. I didn't see anything like that in my posts. But since you assume that I was, I'll spell it out for you. I'm referring to the average 1/2 ton truck, not the Raptor. Trucks like the Power Wagon, Super Duties, Ram HD, and whatnot...those ride like trucks. :flipoff2:

When you're the type of prissy, metrosexual douchenozzle that pays $42K for an imitation desert race truck, you have to have cupholders & AC so you can impress your metro buddies on the way back from getting your soy milk, double carmel almost resembles coffee in total comfort. :shaking::shaking:
Real trucks have bench seats, vinyl (or bare metal) floors & standard transmissions.

Don't forget the parker pumper....
PONY_DRIVER 05-14-2009, 07:43 AM I think some of you confuse what a "real truck" is with what you want or envision a "real truck" to be. I guess everything since the model T is just a frilly, sissified ride huh?
They have the technology to put AC and cup holders in vehicles these days and thos creature comforts are what gets people to actually buy them. How many people would actually buy a bana-fide pre-runner to use as their DD? :shaking:
i would.
IMO that is less stuff to go wrong and break...
CHOPPEDBII 05-14-2009, 10:57 AM IMO that is less stuff to go wrong and break...
how do you break a cup holder?
I like the truck just not the price tag...
fordnut77 05-14-2009, 12:48 PM This truck isn't for everybody. If it's not for you, don't buy it. I think it's a pretty awesome truck for a fair price. You can buy it and don't have to turn a wrench on it. Some people don't have the free time to build a truck. It also has a warranty.
The following truck has AC and cupholders. It must have been built for some metro douchenozzle.

No worries, its all good. Hell, I was the one that misunderstood. I AM a bit surprised with the current market of domestic vehicles they are still sinking so much money into these niche projects but whatever floats their boat I guess.

both my armrests in my pickup do not function. one is stuck in the up postition and other is broken off..

true but, i wonder how mnay of there big investors will buy one.
Heck arnt they still producing the ford GT?
id like to see a nice barebones pickup with a 5 speed for 16k range in a 3/4 chassis before i see a raptor...
Proeliator 05-14-2009, 04:57 PM id like to see a nice barebones pickup with a 5 speed for 16k range in a 3/4 chassis before i see a raptor...
Well sure, but that would make sense, wouldn't it? Thats just crazy talk.
fairlane_68 05-14-2009, 06:56 PM I've been saying for years...the last real truck that was a good truck rolled off the assembly line in 1979. Even Chevy guys will admit that it was a Ford.
In alot of ways, trucks like the Raptor are nice trucks that have built-in fun factor. But they dress them up too much with leather and polish. Who besides the average rich punk is going to romping in the dirt in a truck with leather seating? I'd love to have a Raptor, but without all the bells and whistles. And without an automatic.
LegendKiller89 05-14-2009, 07:34 PM I like the truck it looks cool, but way to overpriced.
LegendKiller89 05-14-2009, 07:34 PM Plus build don't buy.:flipoff2:

eh, you're allowed to have that opinion. I consider any domestic 4wd with a legit solid front axle a 'good truck.' Seeing as GM made them until '91 and Dodge until '93, and then ford came to their senses in '86, I'd have to disagree.
Well sure, but that would make sense, wouldn't it? Thats just crazy talk.
but hey the middle class are just stupid ignorant fools to car makers...
IF ford came out with a plain jane, 3/4 5 speed pickup for around 16k. im talking reg cab, bench seat, vynl floors. No AC (i dont use mine ne ways) no radio. and an ashtray. choice of build options, more axle options etc. Id be on it like white on rice.

How are they gonna do that? That's what a stripped down ranger costs.

Very carefully....
NOt my problem, i buy used...until this comes out...
Z77Z77Z 05-14-2009, 10:52 PM I've seen the truck in person at SEMA and it is absolutly beautiful in my opinion. Its not meant to be a full blown race truck, just like a SVT Cobra was not meant to be a full blown race car. SO quit bitching that it has cup holders and A/C.
It does have a dramatically widened track width, to accomodate larger a-arms, The rear axle housing is wider. Talking with the designer From SVT and Greg Foust(sp?) All all the SVT product ever built this was the most involved and has more SVT specific parts compared regular production vehicles than any previous SVT product. For a production truck its pretty outstanding when you think about what they did. The other side to think about it most of these parts should trickle down to the Ford Racing catalog, so even if you rather build than buy atleast you'll have access to the parts.
desteurm 05-14-2009, 11:14 PM The Raptor will haul ass on logging roads, sand dunes, can be setup for stock baja class. People will love this truck. I don't know why they aren't making a bronco again.
IMO Ford should be doing far more SVT products to sell to the rich and employ the less affluent. They did a major restructure a few years ago and so far aren't going into chapter 11.
I would like to see more SVT's using existing platforms because unique rides sell to rich people. Produce 6 thousand unique cars and keep out of bankruptcy.
F0rdFre@k 05-15-2009, 12:25 PM Saw the Raptor at a local car show. Was pretty nice. Wouldn't trade my F350 for it though.
swamperford 06-07-2009, 11:40 PM I just saw a Raptor on the highway today and its pretty cool aside from the gay graphics. The track width is noticeably wider but fits the truck well.
One in the flesh...

1sweetyj 08-24-2009, 03:23 PM I've been waiting for that truck, I would love it in 4 door. I am in Canada so we can't even get the F150 Harley supercharged, just not available here
FORDTECHGURU 08-24-2009, 03:51 PM Wait a couple years, it will have the new boss motor, then it will rip....
Aside from that, i could care less....
larz07 08-24-2009, 07:02 PM Kudos to Ford (and Dodge) for putting out an "Off road package" that is more than graphics, shocks and a skidplate or two. There is some cool stuff coming down the pipe. If enough people show interest in this truck maybe some of the technology will trickle down into the regular lineup.
That said, anybody that drives a brand new truck in that fashion is ASKING for a rattlebucket after a few years. There is just too much plastic for things to stay tight. My 06 F150 crew is a nice truck but all 4 doors shake on the latches like a bastard when you hit washboard roads (I think it had a rough life in the oilfield before I got it)
X2 on the manual trans, bare bones, 3/4 ton for cheap. Can you even buy a manual in a chev anymore??
Well no matter what anyone thinks of the truck, all 1500 5.4s are sold out.
zachis4wheeling 08-25-2009, 07:30 AM Here's the rationale I can see behind why Ford's dumping a lot into this truck.
So about 2 months ago, I was moving a buddy home from college, and he had a bunch of Time magazines. Well I got reading one at home, and here's what it said.
The state I live in (Michigan), is going to be in 51st place over the next 5 -10 years for job growth. (Surprise, surprise). Whereas, the Southwestern states will have significantly higher job growth opportunities. In fact, I believe that area will be the highest in the nation. Well if you take that info, and from a company's perspective, market your products to the people who will more than likely buy and use them, being the people in the Southwest with good incomes able to buy and (hopefully) use the piss out of these trucks, it makes perfect sense.
Trust me guys, they're not going to be building any mud ready sky high trucks for the great state of Michigan any time soon, you can bet that.
Well no matter what anyone thinks of the truck, all 1500 5.4s are sold out.
Any proof of this?
wheelerfreak 08-25-2009, 08:26 AM The state I live in (Michigan), is going to be in 51st place over the next 5 -10 years for job growth. (Surprise, surprise).

Probably includes Puerto Rico. You know... the state that isn't a state, but still collects on social services without paying taxes.
zachis4wheeling 08-28-2009, 07:44 PM Probably includes Puerto Rico. You know... the state that isn't a state, but still collects on social services without paying taxes.
Yea, I think it was either that or DC. I tried looking on TIME magazines website, but they didn't have the same article available for viewing.
Either way, that kinda sucks that they sold out that quickly....:(
I guess it's a good thing tho too, as it shows the manufacturer that before it's even been released, it's sold out, so there is obviously a pretty good demand for these things. Now if they would only bring back the Bronc.
Man I saw one of these beast heading North on I-75 in TN right before the Knoxville split. I must say it was pretty sweet looking. Maybe it was the orange paint, or the graphics on the bed, or even the shiny Fox shocks... I wanted one :smokin:

What's gonna suck about those trucks is the "market adjustment" on the price they charge for them.
I think those trucks are pretty bad ass, but hauling ass across the desert is not my thing. My current F150 is set up for the expo type trips we do, but it would have possibly been cheaper to have started with a Raptor than do all the mods I did...of course they didn't have 'em back in '05 when I bought the F150, and they don't offer them in the Crew cab either. I'd rather have a Power Wagon for my uses. In fact one would be in my driveway now if I hadn't just bought a 1st gen CTD:D
fordnut77 09-04-2009, 03:27 PM What's gonna suck about those trucks is the "market adjustment" on the price they charge for them.
Yeah no kidding, I went by my local dealer to see if they had one and they did not. They did have a 2010 GT500 with a dealer mark-up of 18K! WTF? Screw them, they will never see any of my business.
F0rdFre@k 09-04-2009, 03:32 PM Two of the three Ford dealerships I stopped at in Albuquerque NM this weekend had a orange Raptor parked out front.

Only $18K?
Local dealers were auctioning the GT500s to the highest bidders when they first came out. They were selling at nearly 100% over MSRP. Same with the Ford GT.
.:eMETAL:. 09-05-2009, 01:38 PM i have yet to see a Raptor in person. man i'll probably shit my pants. these are sweet!
Brutpwr 11-29-2009, 10:50 AM Well I just thought I saw a Raptor from the corner of my eye about a month ago. When I drove by again a week later I stopped and saw one first hand lol. Just saw the first one driving on the road yesterday though. I would love to be able to order one in the next year with the new 6.2 if I don't have to pay any dealer markup!
Jason :)
1966Tbird 11-29-2009, 11:29 AM yeah but just think of how badass you could build a truck for 40k, start with a $1500 beater and dump $38,500 into it and it would be better than the raptor in every aspect

you're 100% right trouble is it's harder to convince a bank to give me 38k to build a raptor than to buy one :flipoff2:
BigBlue&Goldie 11-29-2009, 12:24 PM I saw one in a parking lot yesterday; It's a bad ass truck for being factory! I was skeptical about what you are getting for the money, but as the Torchmate guys pointed out, the dealer essentially does your prep work under warranty  I wanted to buy one after I saw it, but then reality set in and I realized I couldn't afford it :(

Mine is going in for the first dealer "prep" this week. I will let you know how it goes. Oil change and general check up. There is a rattle in the door that I hope they can fix. Brakes need to be checked. All else seems great and that is after 300 miles of Silver State prerunning and 800 Baja prerun miles (including going over the summit twice). The truck has definitely seen some action. One ding in the door from a class 1 going by and spraying me :shaking:.
1966Tbird 11-30-2009, 06:54 PM so with the warrenty ford will repair anything you break? so if you blow through brake pads every 500 miles they will replace them? say you take out the front diff doing something stupid?
BigBlue&Goldie 11-30-2009, 06:57 PM I doubt they would cover it if you are racing...... but prerunning isn't racing.

I saw my first one live coming into the courthouse to get tagged. The driver had a $60k smile on. Not bad for $40k. Unfortunately he didn't jump it into the lot!
Torchmate 12-01-2009, 04:20 PM so with the warrenty ford will repair anything you break? so if you blow through brake pads every 500 miles they will replace them? say you take out the front diff doing something stupid?
Good question on the brake pads. I am guessing that mine are shot and the truck has 5,800 miles on it. I purchased the service plan that supposedly includes brake pads. Truck goes in on Friday to the dealership where I bought it. We will see what happens. It will definitely be Ford's chance to show how much they stand behind these trucks. Honestly, I would not even scream too much if I have to buy the pads. I can't believe that the thing only has a door rattle and bushing squeak after all I put this thing through.
Any action pics?
I was doing about 60 when I hit this jump in front of one of our pit guys watching us go by. Man, the truck really works well in small stuff that would cripple a regular stock F150. Like 6" to 1' whoops. When they get bigger than that it gets pretty rough on the front skid plate. More clearance and I think that the shocks could handle it. It just rubs in the ruts.
Torchmate 12-01-2009, 05:19 PM So, I was prerunning the summit for the 1000 and Mike Shaffer passed me in his JK while we stopped to have lunch. I later caught up to him and sat a couple feet off his rear bumper for a minute or two. Finally he saw me and damn near ran off the course trying to get out of my way. He jumped on the radio and said, "I will say that that thing is awfully intimidating looking at it in the rear view mirror." It looks a lot like a trophy truck prerunner from the front with the big wide stance and low profile. Made my day. :D Never mind that his aired down 37's kicked my ass in the rocky wash. I about ran off course just trying to outrun him. Once we got out of the rocks he was done!
yOHda 12-03-2009, 06:33 AM had to come over from the toyota forum real quick...i saw a black raptor yesterday light it up at a stop light. that thing is wide, mean, and looks really good dressed in black.
oldblue05 12-09-2009, 10:17 AM I understand the argument coming from most hardcore off road enthusiasts, I drive a 1990 f-250 myself. Recently I have been looking into getting a new DD so I can park the old diesel and proceed to really modify it (starting with a 12 valve cummins).
Until the Raptor came out nothing had caught my eye, sure it's a fairly frilly truck but most are these days. What really stands out in my eye is the fact that with very few mods this truck would fit what I want perfect. Most of the things that I want on a truck come in this package, and instead of voiding a warranty by making a new truck the way I want it they will hopefully be covered by a factory warranty.
I'm also glad to hear that people are actually wheeling this thing the way it's meant to be, and that it seems to be holding up well.

So how did the dealer visit go? Which dealer did you buy from? Reno/Carson/Fallon?
Jack
p.s. I am jealous, I really want one of those trucks.
broyota 12-09-2009, 11:27 AM I don't understand why some of you are dogging this truck?:mad3: This truck is awesome. At least the rear diff-lock doesn't kick out at 5 mph like the toyota lame ass pre-runner. Also what other production truck has bypass shocks, 35s, and can tear across the desert....? So quit crying its not a real truck.:flipoff2:
Torchmate 12-09-2009, 05:13 PM So how did the dealer visit go? Which dealer did you buy from? Reno/Carson/Fallon?
Jack
p.s. I am jealous, I really want one of those trucks.
OK, so I bought mine from Ford Country in Henderson, NV. I told them exactly what I was going to do with this truck. I bought it to use as my daily driver and it will also be used to prerun and chase for our Torchmate Racing team. I bought every extended warranty possible just to be safe. Last Friday, we had a race in Henderson so I brought the truck in for its 5,000 mile service. Nevermind that it had 7,500 miles on it. Over 1,000 of those miles were spent prerunning for both the BITD Silver State race and the Score Baja 1000.
I made an appointment to drop it off on Friday morning at 7am. I gave them a list of items that I wanted dealt with. Brakes felt a little funny. Bushings were squeaking a bit from the dust. New rattle in the rear driver side door. Blew a tire (on the road) which still boggles my mind considering I run BFG on everything always. It had to be some freak thing I figured.
I dropped the truck off on Thursday around Noon. I was honestly scared as to what they were going to do to me and the truck. Talk is cheap. Rubber was about the meet the road and I had my doubts. You have to realize that these people at Ford Country were some of the coolest sales people I have met. I dealt with Sherri Anderson and she was great. I had heard stories of people having to pay over sticker price for their Raptors. I never had to deal with any of that. Mine was the first one that they had sold and the only one they had on the lot. I jumped pretty fast at buying one when they came out.
OK, so on Friday morning I got a call from Cathy Solarzano, the service rep from Ford Country that was helping me. She told me how much the tire was going to be. I told her that I had purchased the road hazard warranty and that was the end of the call. The next call I got was around 2pm when the truck was ready for pickup. I didn't ask any questions, I just went to pick it up. We pulled into the Ford Country lot with our 7200 race truck and all the sales people loved it. They were so excited to meet folks that actually race. I asked whether there were any problems and the answer was no and my Raptor was pulled around. I then went in to sign off on the paperwork and hold my breath for the bill.
ZERO. My bill was $0. They changed the fluids, greased everything, removed the door panels and tightened and insulated everything, machined all 4 rotors, replaced the brake pads, battery test, and replaced the tire. All free of charge.
I have not abused this truck, but it certainly has been put through its paces. I can not say enough about the Ford Country Dealership in Henderson or Ford Motor Company in general. I was a believer in Ford before I bought the Raptor. Now I have other people believing as well. Buy a Ford Raptor from Ford Country in Henderson, NV. I promise that you will not be disappointed. I can not tell you how much I value excellent service and standing behind your product. Ford is winning in both those regards. I love my truck and thanks to Ford Country and Sherri Anderson and Cathy Solarzano, it rides like the day I took it off the showroom floor.

Very nice.:smokin:
I doubt you would have gotten the same treatment in Reno/Carson. I have had good luck with Fallon (where I bought my F350), but I haven't "used" my truck like you have.

recoiljunky 12-20-2009, 07:31 AM I was all excited about driving one at our local dealership yesterday. I took it for a spin but returned it within 2 minutes. I found it woefully underpowered, so much that I have to wonder if something was wrong with it.

How so? 0-60? 60-100? Off the line? Up a hill?
The only power problem that I have experienced is the computer limiting it to 104mph.

Off the line on flat pavement. I thought it was supposed to have a tuned up 5.4. This particular Raptor was much slower off the line than my Z71 Silverado crew cab with 5.3.
Maybe I was expecting too much out of it.
