Anyone knows if there's any problem about driving an automatic tranny (700R4) with a Spool in the rear end ?. I was wondering if something could happen to the tranny. What happen with all the forces that come out of the axle in a turn? Are those going to the tranny?
My Jeep is 70 % trail rig and 30% city drive.
Any help appreciate

Don't worry to much about it. All the binding will go on down the line to the tires, which will do all the giving and taking so to speak. That' why you always hear people talk about wering tires out faster with a spool. I personally didn't notice anymore wear from the spool, but mine strictly a trail rig, no daily driving.

Actually I already installed the spool last weekend, but I was worried about my tranny.
I have the B$M transkit and transpak on it. I almost see everyday how my tires are wearing out !!!!

I understand a welded open carrier is the same as a spool but can you buy a spool? Would it be the same, just a welded open, or would it have a fixed ring piece in the carrier?
Im a weld it kinda guy, just wondering.

No problem with my welded rear, and auto. I'm running 36" Swampers at 45 PSI (basicly rides on the center lugs) with no problems other then the tire wear.

Yeah you are right, but since I'm out of the states, and parts availability is a big issue right here, I think it's better to save my carrier in good shape, just in case I want to locked in the future.

I dont know if a mini spool will fit in a d70:flipoff2:
The spool would be stronger too?
A lincoln locked d35 can brake the welds but on a larger axle like 60 or 70 its easier to get a good weld on, but the spool would be stronger.

richmon page 7 of 10 (http://www.richmondgear.com/catalogpdf/pages11-20.pdf)
I think the spool for a dana70 will be too costly since there not a standard.

Both center lugs make full contact, the tires are on a 6,000 lb Scout, no wimpy light weight heeps here :flipoff2: and no tire noise.
