: Anyone running this pump with their EFI systems?

Seems like a fair price ($147 from Summitt)...60psi/60gph. I wondering about longevity, noise, syphon ability etc.

O'yea, has anyone had problems with their stock fuel rail bypass/pressure regulators going south as a result of running more pressure and gph than OEM?

Ran one for a while, till submersion in gooey "water" killed it. Put my spare in (stock Ford pump) and haven't replaced it since. Spare is an inline pump from an '88 F150 with a 5.0 and dual tanks, specifically for the rear tank--about $80 with lifetime warranty at Autozone.

The Mallory was noisier than the Ford pump, not enough to where I minded, but I've been accused of being deaf to "normal" vehicular noises before. It's not designed (so I'm told, anyway) to be a "lift" pump--if it's above the level of the tank, it's not going to be very happy.

Thanks Scott. I've got a Furd pump too...I put a pressure guage on the thing and it swung all the way to 110psi (dead-head)! I was a little concerned that it would kill my stock regulator with that much pressure and flow moving past it.

The other thing is how do you find it (on the ford pump) haveing to use hose clamps on the brass fittings? Any leakage issues?...EVERY "high pressure" efi system I've worked on had/has threaded fittings on the suply side...A hose clamp, gas and lot's of flow on a rubber hose kinda' worried me a little....Not enough to freak-out or anything, but...

I have been running one for about a year, no problems to date, I built a little box for it to fit in and mounted it to the front of my fuel tank skid on my CJ. So far so good, heres a picture...

I've been running the same ford pump for 3 yrs, hose clamps and high pressure rubber EFI line. One of the local shops turned me on to it- they use them on all their engine swaps.

The Ford pump is an external mount.

right where ford put it- been real reliable. Was sucking but has been gravity fed for last two months (most of the time anyway)

Easy to get at if you ever need to also.

Has anyone tried the submersible fuel pumps in thier fuel cells?Or is it better to use an external pump?
I don't have fuel injection yet but will be installing one an was concerned with the external pumps over heating and burning out sooner....the submersible pump seems like a good Idea for cooling and I believe thats why they use them on new vehicals(longevity)....
Is there any disadvantage for this style pump on a 4x4...?

Good topic.

I looked into mounting a in-tank pump on my aluminum Jeg's can (15gal) and after all was said and done, I elected to use an external for simplicity. Had I built the tank from scratch I could have used an in-tank pump...And yes your right...OEM typically uses in-tank pumps for longevity. However from the post's I've seen, if you keep your external pump dry and unrestricted it should hold up just fine (I guess I'll find out!).

sorry Jack, no p/n, just ell them 89 f150, they should be all the same.

The fuel tank pumps are used mostly because the pumps are known to push better than pull. On many vehicles it's a royal pain to fix on the trail.

If a frame rail pump is gravity fed it has just as kind a life. These pumps are really cooled from the inside as there is a constant stream flowing (return line- remember?). For what it's worth I've had my pump submerged in mud and water on many occasions, even for minutes at a time- tough pump.
