: Why not use a long 'ol Jethro shackle?
scwafish 09-05-2002, 03:53 PM After taking the zuk out a few times I love just about everything...except my rear MLs. On fireroads they clang and bang on the bottom of the frame, and there is a ton of monkey motion when I'm going slow.
I love the Rancho CJ springs I'm using and was just considering ditching the MLs and running a long old shackle. Seems to be hip with the toy mini guys on the con...anyone try a long shackle?
poppycock 09-05-2002, 04:06 PM mine are 5.5" but they don't exactly have a ton of testing. ditch the ml's.
mud-magnet 09-05-2002, 05:09 PM my rear ones are like 7" long, but i got cj7 rear springs which are flat and 1" shorter than yjs........... once i put the yj springs in when ever i get around to it i'm going with 6" and beefing it up ALOT, mine has alot of side to side movement...... :flipoff2:
Victor 09-05-2002, 05:34 PM Do suzukis do better with long shackles than Jeeps? We just got a zuke and it had 6 1/2 inch shackles. I took em off because I figured that they were too big. Another question.People put YJ springs on their sammis but how would CJ front springs work on a zuke? aren't they the same width as the zuke ones?
mud-magnet 09-05-2002, 05:43 PM i got cj7 front springs up front...... and i think they rule......... they're great springs, nice and flexy, and i got stock shackles on it, so it would flex better if i put longer ones but i don't want any more lift, d-shaft is binding now.....:flipoff2: for the rear i got cj7 rears, but they suck, probility good if ya put em all around but my back is lower and there too soft for what i do.......... i got a pr of yjs to put in the rear now....:D

I guess Im one of the few I made my M/L and have never had any of the symptoms that I have heard associated with them I love em but I took them off the front when I did the S/R and put a
5" on center shackle up front and get just as much flex out of the front as I did with the M/L but never any probs with the rear
scwafish 09-05-2002, 07:33 PM I am using CJ 7 fronts in the rear...since they are longer than stock a long shackle wont create any more lift than I already have. It will just accomplish the same thing as the ML/shackle combo without the extra joint.
bobaki 09-05-2002, 08:11 PM I thought the top part of the missing link 's job was to extend the pivot point of the shackle .............no?......:D just a long shackle wouldn't have the corect angle.....yes?:D
Victor 09-05-2002, 08:35 PM How much lift do cj springs give a samurai? do they improve flex over stock sammi springs in sua?
scwafish 09-05-2002, 09:59 PM Exactly Bobaki...I guess what I'm trying to ask is why would that shallow shackle angle be bad? I watched some toys with long chevy rears and long shallow shackles and it seems to work good, just wondering if I'm missing something.
scwafish 09-05-2002, 10:01 PM Victor-go look at azrockcrawler.com, more zuk spring spring combo info there than anywhere.

My brother's 87 has CJ fronts in the rear and zuk rears up front with missing links front and rear. He's still spring under and they do flex and ride better than stock.
I've got some pics here (http://home.attbi.com/~rokzuki/20011208_hollister.htm) His is the red one, mine is yellow running YJ's spring over.

Victor 09-06-2002, 09:33 AM Looks good.why not cj fronts all around? do the cj springs give any lift or just longer springs?

The front zuk springs are 37", rear zuk are 39" and cj fronts are 42" (I think these were the correct numbers). The missing links take up the extra few inches in spring length. The alignment pins also need to be drilled on the pads and plates to move the axle about 1 inch.
There have been a few people who are running cj fronts on the front of a zuk but it takes some extra work moving the spring mounts. I've heard of someone taking a rear up front kit and missing links and running cj fronts.
My brother was on a tight budget and got a deal on some used missing links and cj springs. This setup works well for what it costs. If you run it spring over, it flexes pretty good. Not quite as well as a YJ setup, but very good none the less.

Scw, after my experience with them (about 6 months)....Bottom line is that ML's are:rainbow:
Victor 09-06-2002, 11:23 AM Howabout cj fronts in the rear, zuke rears in the front and 4 stock YJ shackles( 4 inch btb) for a start? would that setup work?
poppycock 09-06-2002, 01:02 PM hey scwa, pm me a phone # for that complex in ukiah you found.

Dropping the second leaf from the CJ front pack gave me only an inch of additional lift, but the ride is great.
Going to put CJ fronts out back next...
