: Big Green Hunka' Junk gets HEAD
Big79'Terry 05-13-2009, 08:04 PM Puttin' Pro's former heads on my 429, big S.S. valves, ported to the moon. He's got another mad scientist build goin' :shaking:on. Also new cam/intake/harmonic balancer/timing chain/headers. Will experiment w/carbs.
Screwed this 429 together in Dec. 03'. Stock rebuild other than Speed-Pro forged flat top pistons. Big Green Hunka' Junk has NEVER been a daily driver, just a toy. Cam went flat after less than 20K miles. Zinc, copper, lead are all "metals of concern" according to regulators, so no more/much less metals in lube oil formulas. Went tons in same time frame.
Plan is to address engine/add anti-wrap bar & experiment w/carbs.
More updates as UPS delivers the goods.

f250rollinon37s 05-13-2009, 09:09 PM get that hp60 - dove heads - cam - intake - and shit installed yet :flipoff2:

popeye123 05-13-2009, 10:06 PM hey i get to tell you ta get your crap done now...lol and no im not done yet. hey do you have any 460 exaust manifolds thay dump strait out the back?
Big79'Terry 05-13-2009, 10:13 PM F250.....HPD60 has been installed for 4 yrs. That give ya' some motivation:flipoff2:?????
I howled like a dog with his sack in a vice when I saw yer' reply. TOUCHE'....My good man:smokin:. 7 -12 hr. nightshifts beginning tommorrow night, so will not get anything productive done until next week....other than exchanging pleasantries with my fellow FOMOCO mofos on Pirate. I am really diggin' the "tall skinny front tire-rear dragster tire" stance/look of my junk!!!!!
MROTSTIHS 05-13-2009, 10:16 PM :shaking: totally thought I was gonna see the Incredable Hulk getting brain. worst thread ever :D Ok, I'm kidding, and I love what's being done with those heads. Have fun with those.
Big79'Terry 05-13-2009, 10:18 PM Popeye...why yes my good man we should be able to assist you in these matters.:D
f250rollinon37s 05-14-2009, 01:37 PM SORRY I SAW THE LITTEL TIRES IN THE FRONT AND ONLY A FEW SHINY LUG NUTS AND THOUGHT 5 LUG -
SO ARE THE HEADS ON YET ? :flipoff2:
Proeliator 05-14-2009, 02:28 PM The Green Hunka Junk is going to rape, with your current bottom end and my old top end. Looking good :smokin: I've got a stack of various sized double pumper race carbs for you to experiment with when you're ready. Gas mileage is for wussies :D
Big79'Terry 05-14-2009, 03:25 PM F250......You are forgiven my son & oh so excellent fabmeister. :flipoff2: What happened on the figurin' w/SVT's D60?????:D
Shipment tracker says cam left Nevada warehouse today. Hoping for Friday, however I begin my seven 12 hr. nightshifts tonight:(. So.....my bro has taken pitty on my plight. As long as the weather cooperates (PNW)!?!? he may be able to get er' done over the weekend. He's a 30 yr. fleet mechanic, I trust him inexplicably.
My job is w/Big oil, my routine duties include octane testing. I will figure out the blend ratio of X gals. of 92 octane (SUP)X oz.'s of octane booster (acetone) to achieve an octane of 100 or better. For initial cam break in we wil use AV100LL, cuz' its convenient. No turning back after this procedure.
Honey the bulldog says "I feel the need for speed Big Daddy".
I am honestly totally diggin the whole "Rat Rod" look!!!!!:smokin:
Proeliator 05-14-2009, 03:45 PM Honey the bulldog says "I feel the need for speed Big Daddy".
I am honestly totally diggin the whole "Rat Rod" look!!!!!:smokin:
Hmmmm, why does that look so familiar? :lmao:
Its all downhill from here :D
Big79'Terry 05-14-2009, 03:55 PM COOL:smokin: THE more "rat rod" (s) the better. While there may be some actual tech in this here sunny-gun of a thread, I encourage all of my fellow FOMOCO mofo's to jump in & stir the pot, not smoke it, or whatever creams yer' peas!! Have a good time:D!!!!
Where's LUVSHAK???? You know he's got a "ratrod"
Big79'Terry 05-14-2009, 04:15 PM Pro...Popeye is a local, he wants yer' ex. manifolds.
Proeliator 05-14-2009, 04:54 PM Pro...Popeye is a local, he wants yer' ex. manifolds.
Fine by me. "If the cash is there I do not care" :D
ButtNuttN8 05-14-2009, 06:31 PM looks good I bet she shall rip whats done to the bottom end? whats the cubes stroke bore all that noise
Big79'Terry 05-14-2009, 07:47 PM N8.....429 c.i.stock bore & stroke,Speed-Pro forged flat top pistons, complete stock rebuild Dec. 03'. Pro will have to educate us w/head work. He has been estimating C.R.'s of 12.5 to 13.0:eek::eek:.
No turning back here. My initial plan was to slowly over time upgrade this BBF:stroker crank, heads etc. When Pro informed me his new build no longer required his old heads/intake/headers I was totally pumped.:D
This whole transformation began w/flat cam replacement.
popeye123 05-14-2009, 09:18 PM hey if you need some help ill come watch, just give a hollar i can be there when you get off work
Big79'Terry 05-15-2009, 06:40 PM Waitin for man w/cam in the brown van:(. Demonic dampener, Cloyes true roller timing chain & headers/gaskets (thanks Pro) are here. Pics as soon as s.o. sends em' in e-mail. I'm @ work:flipoff2:.
Also....stopped by P.O.Box on way to work, my diy4x pieces are here for the anti-wrap bar. Pics tommorrow, I guess:confused:.
Valvoline racing oil still has all the goodies in the blend formula we need to keep our cams alive!!!! Found it locally @ Car Quest.....almost $6.00 qt.
Big79'Terry 05-16-2009, 12:30 AM Here's the stuff, Headers are L&L ceramic coated, stained w/"Yankton Red" clay, NOT rusted:flipoff2:. We're not entirely sure if these headers will fit. My Big B' is a 4spd. Anyone know ??
Big79'Terry 05-16-2009, 07:17 PM Did some research last night, looking @ shape of the headers, comparing to Jeffs Bronco Graveyard pics of L&L headers, I may have lucked out!:smokin:.
Cam & lifters were delivered to my bro's shop late afternoon yesterday. Still on nightshift, till Thurs A.M.:(.
f250rollinon37s 05-16-2009, 09:10 PM if they dont i want them :D
then i only have to hand make ( or modify ) one side
ButtNuttN8 05-16-2009, 11:29 PM nice thats sounds good gotta love friends with extra spare go fast parts Im a loner in my neck of the woods w the love of fords so i get shat on often. Keep the pix comming
Big79'Terry 05-17-2009, 12:28 AM I've got a stack of various sized double pumper race carbs for you to experiment with when you're ready. Gas mileage is for wussies :D
N8......While Pro has a certain bragadacio personna online, he has been extremely helpful w/sharin' the BBF knowledge & CUTTIN' ME SWEET DEALS ON PARTS:smokin:. He has MANY high end carbs for me to sample. While I was just about to pull the trigger on Pro-Comp aluminum E-bay heads, he talked me out of it.
F250....Have you checked Jeffs Bronco graveyard prices on headers??? I was impressed.
Sucks to be workin' nights this week, I get up @ 3 or 4 in the P.M., HAVE TO BE BACK AT WORK BY 5:30.12 hr. shifts, Seven days on/seven days off.:D
Also....the DIY4X brackets are here for my anti-wrap bar. Jim @ Cage (also a local) gave me a formula to size my axle bracket. He says 1/4 of tire size for "spread" @ axle bracket, utilizing the same length shackle as what are on the vehicle. So I ended up w/11" (42" tire) spread & a 4-1/2 shackle. Kurt @ DIY4X built mine to that spec for an extra $10.00:D.
Should I use the same size tube as the bushings or go square tube??
Pics tommorrow.
Big79'Terry 05-17-2009, 03:57 PM Here's the anti-wrap bar brackets/bushings/shackle.
f250rollinon37s 05-17-2009, 04:35 PM i have seen all the prices and even contacted them to see it i could get a blem - as im sure nothing will fit on the pass side due to how much i dropped the engine -
i didnt want to pony up the cash if i was going to cut them up to make it work - so it might be custom, and if im going to do it i might have to go a little overboard :D
Big79'Terry 05-17-2009, 06:43 PM F250....I happen to have another 429 in a 63' F2 2x2. It has headers, if you want em' you can have em' for shipping.:D
I brought s.o.'s camera to work w/me, if I can figure out how do get pics on puter', we will see that the driver side header (clutch side) works:smokin:.
Big79'Terry 05-17-2009, 07:24 PM Here's the driver side header looking good for fitment. A couple more pics: the other pair of Dove-C heads I have, which could be available, should any of the Pirate Fomoco's be interested.:D
cslimfu 05-18-2009, 03:11 PM what kind of shape are those heads in? and what are you lookin for from them. i will be doing a stroker hopefully mid to late summer. the heads i have now are crappy,of a 74.
Proeliator 05-18-2009, 06:47 PM N8......While Pro has a certain bragadacio personna online, he has been extremely helpful w/sharin' the BBF knowledge & CUTTIN' ME SWEET DEALS ON PARTS:smokin:.
Dude, you are going to totally blow my asshole reputation :flipoff2:
Here's the driver side header looking good for fitment.
Yea, I figured if any off the shelf headers would fit, those would.
what kind of shape are those heads in? and what are you lookin for from them.
I've seen the heads, and they are in great shape. I don't know what Terry wants for them, but I'll say heads like that sell around $300 on average.
Big79'Terry 05-18-2009, 07:59 PM what kind of shape are those heads in? and what are you lookin for from them. i will be doing a stroker hopefully mid to late summer. the heads i have now are crappy,of a 74.

Uhhh, yea, I'd say thats safe to say since my block isn't even to the machine shop yet :homer:
I'm going to miss the drags in June, but unless I'm a complete porch monkey I should be rolling in July. It'll be dry up at Grants but we may have to get some dual break in vid of the Fomoco twins regardless :smokin:
f250rollinon37s 05-18-2009, 11:06 PM well at least he is not as put off as i am :flipoff2::(:(
but i did get something else to wheel for a little while :D - dare i say a :barf: jeep :barf: :flipoff2:
but the truggy will be moving a bit more soon now my shop is unoccupied by other shit. i hope to have the cage X and the seat belt harness's in for good in a week or so - and perhaps a shifter :smokin: - but that will depend on a few other unknowns as of yet
f250rollinon37s 05-18-2009, 11:08 PM and as soon as my shits done im coming up there to wheel with you fuckers
Big79'Terry 05-19-2009, 12:11 AM and as soon as my shits done im coming up there to wheel with you fuckers
F250.....That would be way cool!!!!!!:D:D We've got TSF for trails & rocks, Sandlake for dunin'/beach/sand blastin' & of course my personal FAV.....MUD. All of these sites are less than 80 miles from our home base. The mud run is of course right here.
We could help yer' brother break his junk:(.

I am fairly certain Angie would NOT like to know that you may be a "girlyman":flipoff2:!
We can have us a small "unorganized non-event". Who ever shows to wheel is who ever shows:smokin:.
Big79'Terry 05-19-2009, 07:55 PM Stopped by shop on the way in to work tonight, old timing chain had lots of slop. My bro' thinks he'll have heads off tonight or tommorrow. Two more night shifts to go:D.
Big79'Terry 05-20-2009, 07:50 PM Today's progress, last nightshift tonight:D.
Looks to me like we'll break in the cam on ex. manifolds, install headers/redo exhaust later.
Big79'Terry 05-21-2009, 08:14 PM Old heads are off, pistons & bores look good... as they should. Chasing all the head bolt threads in block, cleaning & prep for head replacement procedure.
Not me in pic, that's my bro'....the smart one. Remember.....I'm the semi-crippled, old fat, handsome sneaky guy:D.Couple of random pics: me & me :flipoff2:(PRO......take note):flipoff2:: ownin' the "tank trap".....frozen, early in the day before all the high H.P. rigs chewed it up. Remember.....old, semi-crppled, fat, handsome, SNEAKY guy:smokin:.
Big79'Terry 05-23-2009, 07:45 PM Well.....My kids are here to spend the long weekend with DAD:D. We have been riding A.T.V.'s & hangin' with my Dad; their G-Pa. However.....water pump needed replaced, got one today. Not worth the risk in putting a known shitter on new engine. My "crew chief" said he'll handle gettin' the heads on :smokin:, since my kids are here. I am truly blessed to have a friend like that. Pics as soon as we get up to the shop.
Big79'Terry 05-24-2009, 06:22 PM Well.....Between the holiday weekend, Bar-B-Q's,my kids, Indianapolis 500 & Nascar we got the heads on & torqued. Hopefully cam/lifters/timing chain/new water pump/demonic balancer installed & all sealed up tommorrow.
Big79'Terry 05-25-2009, 03:46 PM Headin' to Seattle to take my kids home, got some more progress pics.....
popeye123 05-26-2009, 12:59 AM looking good terry! looks like that thing will be running in no time. let me know when the test-in-tune is ill get someting running to come out and play
Big79'Terry 05-26-2009, 05:55 PM Looks like we're gonna' build a stand for radiator, leave front clip off & fire it up tommorrow. Back to work Thursday:(.Todays progress pics....
cslimfu 05-26-2009, 06:08 PM how much hair is hanging off youre cam, and what intake you running?
f250rollinon37s 05-26-2009, 11:18 PM is that a manifold i spy on the passenger side ? wtf happened to the headers ?
Big79'Terry 05-26-2009, 11:18 PM how much hair is hanging off youre cam, and what intake you running?
The intake is a weiand "stealth" manifold. The cam is an Edelbrock 1500rpm-5500rpm range. Could have went MUCH wilder w/cam. Chose this one as a starting point for driveability/manageability. Carb is just out of the carb dip/rebuilt Holley D-Pumper 650.
Big79'Terry 05-26-2009, 11:23 PM is that a manifold i spy on the passenger side ? wtf happened to the headers ?
Since entire exhaust sytem needs to be built around the headers/ Pro took all my$$$$$:flipoff2:. Decided to break in cam w/ex.manifolds.
As I am sure you aware F250......I have spent a "shitpot" of $$$$$$ up to this point. Complete new exhaust system to go w/headers is not in the cards....this week. Still have the headers & will utilize them:smokin:.
ButtNuttN8 05-27-2009, 12:58 PM lookin good man how much horse you looking to get? love the older style fords keep it up gets me motovated to get mines rolling
popeye123 05-27-2009, 02:24 PM is it running yet:flipoff2: where's the video
Big79'Terry 05-27-2009, 08:24 PM It's alive:D!!!!!
Broke in cam today on AV100LL (avgas).ZERO PINGING:smokin: 45 minutes @1500 RPM. One more valve adjustment & it's a done deal. Front clip will go back on tommorrow evening after I get off work. Begin my 7 twelve hr. dayshifts in A.M.
We ended up hookig the radiator to engine & using tie downs to secure radiator during cam break in. This radiator is the "baja" one that every one used to lust after. 5 gallons of ant-freeze later it was ready. Only mishap was a blown heater hose about 10 minutes in to the run.
Little guy is my Bro': "Mott" (backwards for tom), my crew chief & the brains of the operation. I'm the old semi-crippled fat handsome sneaky "idea guy" & financial officer:shaking:.
Proeliator 05-27-2009, 10:26 PM Sweet! Now all you need is a real carb :flipoff2:
popeye123 05-27-2009, 11:04 PM good to see it running
svt150j49 05-28-2009, 11:51 PM whoo hoo! it runs. :grinpimp:
Big79'Terry 05-29-2009, 06:11 PM whoo hoo! it runs. :grinpimp:
Yeah.....It has been stressfull, my kids were here, holiday weekend, bar-b-q's, the looming return to work on thursday:(. All the little crap @ the end, I know for a fact that I made at least 10 trips to Car Quest, Napa & Ace is the place, all in the last day. So ...I haven't even got a chance to hear it run, other than the cam break in @ steady 1500 rpm's, on wednesday. @ work now:12 hr. shifts, not any time afterwards if I want to sleep. Have to be back @0530.
Stuff left to complete:
New exhaust system/headers
Adjust valves for final time
Put front clip back on truck
Acquire material/fab/install anti-wrap bar w/DIY4X parts
Figure out blend ratio for 100 octane fuel utilizing 93 octane Supreme & acetone as blend components.
:D
Big79'Terry 05-30-2009, 12:01 PM you cant leave it at "i figured out the blend ratio for 100 octane using acetone" and not tell the ratio.
cslimfu.....That's why it's still on my "stuff left to complete" list. I'll share.
cslimfu 05-30-2009, 01:37 PM ah , yes. good ole ADD kickin in there. i skip around. sorry bout that.
XFORDNAP 05-30-2009, 03:19 PM I had to go back and read the post twice. I wish I would have known. I've got a few of those in excellent shape i.e. less than 50K miles complete air cleaner to oil pan in storage. What other stuff do you have left or need? Here are couple of pics. of my motor on the dyno and the truck. I am trying to find a set of 406 mog axles.
Thanks
Ben
Big79'Terry 05-30-2009, 03:44 PM I had to go back and read the post twice. I wish I would have known. What other stuff do you have left or need?
So you read the entire thread twice & still can't figure out what engine??!!
Big79'Terry 06-02-2009, 10:59 AM Two more 12 hr. day shifts to go:D. Guess the starter went out last night while tuning the motor. I was not there. So new starter today while I'm @ work. When I asked how it runs my bro' replied: "idles down to 800rpm & sounds gnarly". On exhaust manifolds. Cant wait to get headers/new exhaust installed. Pics & maybe vid Thursday.
Proeliator 06-02-2009, 03:12 PM When I asked how it runs my bro' replied: "idles down to 800rpm & sounds gnarly".
You'll be glad you sent back that first cam :D
Big79'Terry 06-02-2009, 04:11 PM Pro.....Noticed yer' sig. line seems a little optimistic:laughing:.....shouldn't it read: "currently on engine stand"?????:flipoff2:
Proeliator 06-02-2009, 04:49 PM Pro.....Noticed yer' sig. line seems a little optimistic:laughing:.....shouldn't it read: "currently on engine stand"?????:flipoff2:
Nope, it should read "currently at machine shop" :grinpimp:
I was wondering who the first person to notice that would be. I'm guessing I'll have it screwed together and in by three weeks time, rougly. Have to also put together an all new fuel system to feed it.
Don't forget to work some overtime, you're going to need to buy one of my custom carbs to feed that bad boy :D
P.S. Don't give me any grief or I'll hold my headers hostage :flipoff2:
cslimfu 06-02-2009, 04:49 PM i noticed it too and was thinking i remembered some one saying they were going over 600 cubes. terry, does youre new cam have hair?
Proeliator 06-02-2009, 04:54 PM i noticed it too and was thinking i remembered some one saying they were going over 600 cubes. terry, does youre new cam have hair?
I was doing a big build, then my wife lost her job literally the day after I posted about it and I had to scrap those plans. That taught me a lesson though, which is why I've stayed quiet about what I'm doing now ;)
The original cam Terry was going to install was nutless. Lucky for him, and unlucky for his bank account; he started coming over to my shop and got bit by the horsepower bug. Needless to say, the current cam he is using has plenty of pubes :D
Once he straps on the headers and puts on a carb that will feed the motor, it should be damn near as hairy of a motor as what I had in SuperBeast. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's using a bunch of parts from SuperBeast. The Green junka junk is going to be a whole different breed of off road vehicle :smokin:
cslimfu 06-02-2009, 05:00 PM sorry to hear about youre wifes job, things can get shitty real quick. i havent touched my truck in a few months..... sucks ass.i was hoping to get it together to get up there before the mud was gone.
Big79'Terry 06-02-2009, 06:05 PM Ya' gotta love the "bragadacio & attitude" of our very own Pro:D!!
Yes, I have always wanted a nasty BBF. This here 429 could well be the beginning. Thanks for your consulting Seth.:smokin:
Proeliator 06-02-2009, 07:51 PM Ya' gotta love the "bragadacio & attitude" of our very own Pro:D!!
The sad thing is I tamp it down for public consumption
Yes, I have always wanted a nasty BBF. This here 429 could is the beginning.
Fixed for accuracy ;)
Thanks for your consulting Seth.:smokin:
I've enjoyed helping to guide your build. I never mind helping my local fomoco freaks out :smokin:
Big79'Terry 06-03-2009, 11:37 PM So...After work tonight we put front clip back on Big Green Hunka' Junk. I have always wanted a "slobbering" BBF. Looks like I've got one now. Heard it run for the first time, since cam break in, got to play w/throttle a little bit. You can sure tell it's got a cam!!!
Pics & possibly vid tommorrow:smokin:
Big79'Terry 06-05-2009, 02:37 AM Drove er' home today:smokin:. Battery in camera is dead. Motor feels MUCH different, w/out spinnin' the tires it's hard to tell. Sounds/acts/feels "camish". Really lopes HARD down low, I stalled it several times drivin' thru town:shaking:.
Big79'Terry 06-05-2009, 03:22 PM Big Green Hunka' Junk is finally home. Isn't it odd that 42" tires don't look so big.....
Big79'Terry 06-06-2009, 12:19 PM Forgot the engine bay pic.........
ButtNuttN8 06-06-2009, 01:00 PM very nice work whats the carb cfm? and how much horse/torq do y ou think it has?. Deft nice work im a fan of the BBF gotta love it put up sound clips lets here that loop!
Big79'Terry 06-06-2009, 06:19 PM N8......Holley 650 D puker. Pro has many high end, big CFM, custom tuned carbs for me to sample. Will most likely experiment w/carbs after headers/new exhaust.
Proeliator 06-06-2009, 09:46 PM Drove er' home today:smokin:. Battery in camera is dead. Motor feels MUCH different, w/out spinnin' the tires it's hard to tell. Sounds/acts/feels "camish". Really lopes HARD down low, I stalled it several times drivin' thru town:shaking:.
Funny thing is, that was pretty much the smallest cam I recommended :D
Perspective and experience is everything. You get a little more time in the saddle behind this one and you'll be happy. That, and you need to tune the carb for it.
N8......Holley 650 D puker. Pro has many high end, big CFM, custom tuned carbs for me to sample. Will most likely experiment w/carbs after headers/new exhaust.
Ayup. Get the rest of the system in first and then we'll play with some real carbs :grinpimp:

Big79'Terry 06-07-2009, 10:03 AM No secrets on cam. This was the minimum cam Pro suggested. Summit part #Edelbrock 7167. 0.556 intake lift, 0.581 exhaust lift. Intake duration 290, Exhaust duration 300.

old ugly 54 chevy 06-08-2009, 08:06 PM How goes the battle to get all the ducks in a row on the hill? Is the county still playing "nice"?
Big79'Terry 06-09-2009, 10:32 AM How goes the battle to get all the ducks in a row on the hill? Is the county still playing "nice"?
Hey Tim how's it goin'?
The county has always played nice & continues to do so. Representative from Oregon state land use board visited & inspected the site as well. She basically said, after a very thorough inspection: "I have no concerns". We have it in writing.
Please try to remember we entered in to a voluntary agreement w/county to cease operations until all issues have been addressed.
Did you happen to hear what happened w/ Mollalla Mud Bog? Evidently they were asked something similar from that county. They chose not to comply. They were fined for contaminating salmon habitat.
So.....We are both extremely sympathetic towards Mollalla's situation & hugely relieved that we chose to comply.
The next step is Oregon DEQ & the ESCP. ESCP= erosion sediment control plan.
We need to raise approx. $5000.00 for permit application fees & consulting.
Proeliator 06-09-2009, 05:26 PM Terry, when you swing by Friday could you bring me some shop rags? I hear you've got plenty extra laying around :D
Big79'Terry 06-09-2009, 10:34 PM Terry, when you swing by Friday could you bring me some shop rags? I hear you've got plenty extra laying around :D
Yes, Yes, I inadvertantly left a rag in oil pan:mad3::mad3:.
Spent the ENTIRE WEEKEND, PULLED PAN TWICE, cleaned screen(was completely clogged) installed new oil pump. She's a runner again:D.
popeye123 06-19-2009, 07:04 PM you have been quite lately how is the thing running? ready for test and tune?
Big79'Terry 06-25-2009, 11:26 AM It's all GOOD!........After my traumatic experience w/"dumbass syndrome" all is well. She's a thirsty PIG:laughing:. Mucho impressive. Now I just need to learn to drive a real motor. Will post pics after anti-wrap bar figured/fab'd/installed.
Big79'Terry 02-17-2010, 10:43 AM Needed to update the FOMOCO brethren. Remembering that I am essentially a parts changer & not an engine guru.....Pro spent some time tuning my BBF.
Much better now:eek:. Just got off the phone w/Poly Perfomance, TRYING TO FIND ANY SUPPLIER who actually has the RCV shafts in stock/ready to ship today. Hoping to ensure fun w/out breakage @ Mud Fest in 3 weeks.
Any ideas???? By the way.....these RCV's are NOT INEXPENSIVE.

Big79'Terry 02-18-2010, 07:00 AM Your a lucky man Terry to have all those BBF guru's up north.:smokin:
Blown...YES Sir. Either Jim or Pro can always answer my FOMOCO concerns, sometimes I may not like the answer. I have learned to be careful what I wish for. This BBF is no longer a friendly torquey low end motor. The manual tranny & the dumbass behind the wheel seem to make it worse:homer:.
So....I got up early so I can call the east coast shops in their A.M., ZERO vendors on the board who advertise RCV shafts have the 87' Ford D60 shafts in stock. One of the vendors mentioned he thought I would have better luck by contacting RCV directly (as F250 suggested). 7-10 days is what RCV is saying, free shipping & discounted drive slugs. Got up @ the butt crack of dawn to drop a shitpot o $$. Hopefully the shafts will make it before Mud Fest. Looks like I'll have some Ford D60 shafts for sale:D. 1 set of Alloy USA inners & complete/assembled set of Spicer inners w/Spicer joints & Yukon 35 spline stubs.

Yes sir.
Just got back from Jims shop, the new d-lines are in & awesome. Not inexpensive! Hell my first truck cost less....by a long way. Will get pics tomorrow, we're finishing up the monster & workin' on the Hunka' Junk. RCV sent an e-mail; saying my shafts will ship in 5 days. Go back to work next Thursday on nightshift, 7-12 hr. nightshifts. Will be off for 7 days beginning the 4th. Mud Fest is the 6th. Usually I do nothing but sleep & work when on nights, may not happen that way this time.
Big79'Terry 02-20-2010, 04:16 PM Over @ Jims today, he's just about got the monster complete. Welding on new bump stop mounts & re-fitting my rear shock brackets. TOO MUCH GRINDING:(.

Big79'Terry 03-02-2010, 05:12 PM Workin' nights this week. Just checked tracking dealio w/UPS.....RCV's & slugs are here on the UPS truck, not in my hands yet. Mud Fest is this weekend, not sure if I'll be able to get them installed or not. Also got one of Gubni's, here on board, rear disc brake kit. Bobby Longs new spindle bushings to go along w/RCV's. Hoping these upgrades make my front end IDIOT :homer: Proof (me).:D
So....will have a set of stock inners/Spicer joints /yukon 35 spline stubs & set of ALLOY USA (used) inners for sale. PM me if'n yer' interested.

Well....sort of a subliminal suggestion anyhow. I found it interesting that RCV does not show or publish the warranty on their site. Either that or I was too dumb to notice.
popeye123 03-03-2010, 11:38 PM damn! them are purty

F250....No I'm not buying blingin' rear shafts.:flipoff2: For me..now that Pro has got my BBF runnin' nasty, the whole break an axle/hub & frag my front Detroit has definately been on my mind. This should bring piece of mind:D.

Big79'Terry 08-04-2010, 09:50 PM Well.... haven't really done a lot w/Big Green Hunka' Junk as of late, RCV shafts/slugs are in, rear discs installed, going to need a proportioning valve I believe. Currently refusing to buy another stock POS FOMOCO PS pump:barf:. They only last about 6 months on this truck before screaming & puking out. Detroit in front & 42's kills em'?? Either way I will convert to saginaw, got some brackets from salvage yard, I didn't take em' off, these don't seem to work.

You're welcome up anytime. The main house has a guest room, and the shop has a full bath, pool table, stocked fridge and 120" high def screen with a xbox360. I even recently put up a railing on the loft side with the rec stuff to keep drunks from falling off. Not to mention the disco ball :flipoff2:

Slim....Great to hear you're quietly amassing your goodiies! Give a call to make sure I'm not @ work. Guess the McMinville park is already shut down due to zoning issues:(. According to Jim: If you don't run the Ouverson joints w/47 spline Ouverson shafts, no warranty coverage!
Did ya' use the good heads? Very interested in yer BBF.
As for your beverage choice.....It's all good.
In case some of you FOMOCO's don't wander in to the MUD section... this is a friends private property "Plumbers Pond". This was before we had figured out my BBF. Here's a few pics....
cslimfu 09-24-2010, 09:04 PM Ive gone past the place here and seen it. I have also talked to a few people round here who have been there a few times. I didnt hear it was shut down though, Figures. I plan on running thier joints. I really havent done anything with the heads. I am thinking of diving into new ground for me and I might use them. **cough forced induction *** But I have to build the truck first. Just rounding up parts. Gotta get some other crap done first to make some room, 63 falcon ranchero engine swap, finish my woodsplitter, and cab gaurd for my pickup. Then to the good fun stuff. Just a year late.... story of my life.
Big79'Terry 09-24-2010, 09:17 PM Finally installed headers & new 3" exhaust, D.U.I. dizzy, FOMOCO/motorcrap dizzy/ignition/coil outta' here. New plug wires, "chrome don't get ya' home" air filter housing will be gone before next muddin' event. Fuel regulator/gauge to work w/PRO tuned 750 DP. My step son Devin was instrumental in helping the old(50) semi-crippled fat handsome sneaky guy in making it all happen. :smokin:Thanks Devin & Pro.:smokin: Here we are final tune-in BBF......
yoder man 10-01-2010, 07:48 PM Do you ever take this rig off flat ground? I was thinking the DP Holley wouldn't like off camber ground or hills? I may be wrong and need to be schooled, it wouldn't be the first time. Lol, anyways awsome set up and how does it work? I'm wanting to build a motor later in the same manor. Wondering what all is in the heads and curious about your plug choice and wires? I have a hei style dizzy and a 429 that's going into my 69' Early Bronco. Headers might be out of the question unless they exit outside the frame? So reading about your bronco was inspiring and hope to learn more from it, thanks. I'm thinking a good set of heads will be the next part I'll need to get for my engine build. Later.

Yoder...The issue was the ginormous vaccum leak @ intake manifold not the Holley DP:homer:. As stated earlier this BBF is now full on gnarly. These heads came to me from Proeliator here on the board. Scotty in Tacoma (Re -in Carnation HOT ROD Guru) ported & bench flowed these head some years ago...that's all I really know. If I was to do it again I would most likely go Edelbrock or some other quality aluminum head, if for no other reason than aluminum heads are not as prone to pre-detonation (pinging). The 72cc combustion chamber & my flat top Speed Pro pistons are the culprits. Maybe Pro will enlighten us on exactly what was done to the Dove-C's.
The plug wires are FOMOCO Racing 9mm silicone, can't recall plug type/spec.
Dr.Danger 10-03-2010, 05:12 PM Scotty J. really knows his stuff, you got a good set of heads right there. If you ever have to do it again add a singh groove to the quench pad and try out one of his custom recurved stock distributors, they are a hell of an alternative to expensive aftermarket stuff.

Proeliator 10-05-2010, 02:12 PM Maybe Pro will enlighten us on exactly what was done to the Dove-C's.
They were what Scotty called at the time his "Stage III's", which were the best he offered. Basically a max effort port job on the doves with the SCJ sized stainless valves (if memory serves they were Ferrea), heavier double springs to handle more valve lift etc. You won't find a more bad ass head in an iron offering, and they actually outflow many of the aluminum out of the box. I think they've been tested good up to a 700hp motor.
I only got rid of them because the new stroker needed some SCJ alum heads with a max port job from Scotty....and I knew the old heads were going to a good home :D
Basically, when it comes to heads in the Fomoco world, the only people I'd pay to port them are Scotty or Lem/Charlie Evans.
Dr.Danger 10-05-2010, 04:39 PM Dr D. .......I would like to know more about yer' 472 BBF: Do tell:D!
Mine isn't all that super, but my engine it started as a stock rebuild about 10 years ago when I was still in highschool. Since then it has a new cam (was a used freebie, not sure of the specs but it feels like an RV cam) stock valve D3VE heads ported as per scottys website instructions, straight up timing chain, long tube headers and 3" dual exhaust, eddy 750 carb and performer RPM intake, and an MSD box and coil with motorcraft dizzy.
This thing does suffer quite a bit from lack of compression and that weenie RV cam, and the intake really isn't well suited for a low end torque either. I picked up some KB 138 flattop pistons for her which should fix the compression problem and I would like to do a hotter camshaft as well, but I may scrap that idea and offset grind the stock crank for a 4.14" stroke and run some universal 2.2" rods with the current 22cc dish piston which with the D3's will give me a 9.0:1 pump gas friendly 508.
Right now I have a half finished 466 I'm building for my Capri, will be sporting a tunnel ram, and heavily ported large valve D0VEs unless I decide to plunk down some coin and buy some SCJ heads, which are getting pretty cheap nowadays. Either way both builds are kind of on the back burner and will have to wait for college graduation coming up in may. Studying sucks, it really cuts into my play time, but once I get a real job I will be able to throw more money at these two projects.

cslimfu 10-05-2010, 10:25 PM * HIJACK* What about the ex 514 heads? I think they out perform most ported heads out of the box. Probably not scotty's. Anybody run them? *END HIJACK*

That's basically an A460 head, right? Haven't heard much about them in awhile. Just remember that bigger isn't necessarily better; everything needs to work together to perform optimally. Sure, I could have strapped some Thor heads onto my new stroker, but fully ported SCJ heads were the best match.
Just sayin' ;)

Couldn't agree more. With the price these SCJ heads are down to you really can't go wrong. Unless your looking to hit the 900+hp mark on motor alone.
blown4x4 10-08-2010, 10:50 PM Also, Terry, Seth an Jim wheeling on the farm is going to happen in the coming months. Mayhap come down to junction city? If you guys need a place to stay the night before an event this far south, I got you covered.

John....sounds GREAT:D A veritable herd of Freakin' Frightening FOMOCO's. When will your's be operational? Since I work a 7 day on/7 day off schedule we should be able to make something work. Lets keep the pressure on Pro to put some zoomies on SuperBeat & repair the 4 speed, he's currently headerless. Do you recall the World War 2 fighter planes w/headers poking thru the sides of the cowling? Seth had floated that idea recently, except have the headers come out the fenders rather than the hood. Jim is planning on going tube frame @ some point, in the meantime he's aquiring new goodies for the monster. Jim's new tow rig is gonna be cool: 64' F250 w/tons,new 390 etc. We're gonna swap gearsets, my 4.56's for his 5.13's, Jim will perform the gear set up & I'll do all the shit work & pay for parts. Big79'Terry 10-19-2010, 12:08 PM Nothing new to report. Just wanted to relay a conversation last night that we had: "Black Friday Mud Fest(no relation to actual Mud Fest) is happenin' day after Turkey day,NO WHEELIN' JUST SIDE BY SIDE MUD DRAGS, less than 50 miles from here". Pro: "Cool....put er' in low range, 3rd gear, rev er' to 5000 & drop the hammer! what's not to like?"
UHH.............:shaking:Drive line repair bill?

Slim....Toutle Wa.
Turns out that I am on my days off for this dealio. However....the 50 yr. old fat semi-crippled handsome sneaky guy has never been known for his catlike reflexes: launching a 4 speed tranny equipped 3 ton Hunka' Junk. We'll see. I will attempt to remain cautiously optimistic. Event organizer returned my call to say "side by side 50 yard mud lanes only". So no other wheelin'.:shaking:

Big79'Terry 02-12-2011, 12:07 PM Back from the abyss; Couple of pics from our local private property top secret proving grounds. (:flipoff2:) 10 point cage will be installed soon, pics to come. Just could not convince myself to go Boggerz, New shoes on the way......
cslimfu 02-12-2011, 12:42 PM Pro no help on his boggers for you? Well,he might of charged you extra for good measure so, never mind.... Just messin round with you. What size you go with?
Big79'Terry 02-12-2011, 01:10 PM Pro no help on his boggers for you? Well,he might of charged you extra for good measure so, never mind.... Just messin round with you. What size you go with?
Slim...Pro's Boggerz really are like new. I just am not comfortable w/the "all forward no lateral" traction scenario that Boggerz are famous for. Pro has offerd me several times to test drive his 44" Boggerz. I've reluctantly declined. As I recall his pitch was "You can't handle the.. (truth)..traction".
Among the guys I wheel with,Jim on 60" R2's & Pro on 47" ag's, believe it or not, I'm the conservative one.
Luckily I was able to find & secure a set. Believe it or not 4WP's matched NTW's price w/free shipping to 4WP store in Portland,I'll pick em' up later next week. For the same price Pro's askin' for his Boggerz. Actual tire pics when they arrive.
I chose a new set of 43" SX.
Proeliator 02-13-2011, 02:43 PM Pro no help on his boggers for you?
Naaa, as usual I would have hooked him up with a buddy price. Some people are just skeered of the awesomeness that is a bogger :D

As I said earlier it was hard for me to not install Pro's Boggerz & give em' a test:( ride. New rims would have been part of the (16") equation as well. So for me, I'm just excited to be gettin' new sharp knobbies:smokin:.

Well, although I never tried to get you to buy my boggers I'll confess that I just didn't personally didn't see the sense in going from 42" swampers in good shape to 43" ltb's or sx's....especially when all we do is mud. Still, I have to admit those look pretty sexy :smokin: And, its always fun to get new shoes.
So, are you using your old 16.5" rims or did you move up in the world and go with 16"s?

Of course you would have no way to know this: my driver side rear tire has a large boot repair. Last time @Grants, what 2 years ago?, I somehow ran over a submerged metal:barf: fence post. Piercing all the way thru. Eatons sent it out to be repaired & it's always held air, just always on my mind. I would rate the tread on my TSL's @85%.
43" LTB's would have been tits except there is none in that size. The LTB tread is cool. Yes sir 16.5's:eek:, however I still haven't ruled out re-centered H1's.
The TSL's will sell w/ZERO problemo's in my opinion. Yes I'm very excited for new sharp knobbies:smokin:!

Yea, I know how something like that can eat at ya, especially when you are depending on it to drive you to and back from events. Even with the repair, your asking price for those is really good considering that they otherwise look in great shape without all that many miles on them. And yes, that was a shameless plug for you :flipoff2: Still, I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it.
In other hijack news, my new headers did in fact arrive yesterday and now that I'm not on V-Day duty I'll be out seeing if they do in fact fit tonight.
blown4x4 02-15-2011, 07:07 PM Kickass Terry. SX's are my favorite trail tire.
The price your asking for your 42's is an excellent price. You should have no trouble selling them.

Big79'Terry 05-29-2011, 05:40 PM We went out to the secret testing grounds today for some holiday weekend fun. That's a broken H.A.D. CV (FRONT SHAFT) & BROKEN CLEANLY IN TWO 1350 D60 rear yoke. We pulled the rear axle shafts so as not to damage R&P. We'll see upon inspection.
So as one of the "Old Guys" I always preach "Be in control, use traction not wheel speed". I performed the ultimate dumbass move by wringin' the guts outta' the BBF on a STEEP slick clay hill. All the while keeping my foot in it after catching a couple feet of air on passenger side over BIG bump/rut. InstantTraction & HP break parts:homer:...

You can upgrade the yoke and the driveshaft issue looks like it's a pretty burly 1350 shaft. Not like it was an axle break.

Why Thank You very much my good man. But let's call a spade a spade. My vehicle would have never had the motor performance that I now enjoy had it not been for your guidance & tuning.
Everyone in attendance follows me up the trail to witness my attempt @ hillclimb. My heart is POUNDING. All I can think about is my short wheelbase rig all locked up w/no rollcage. I know If I get Bronco way outta' shape I'm comin' back down the hill like Humpty Fawkin' Dumpty; THE HARD WAY:eek:.
It's a hard right ninety degree turn thru trees @ bottom. ZERO RUN UP SPACE. I'm in 4/LOW/2nd gear, as I finish the 90 degree turn I look up & can see nothing but a giant dirt wall w/trees & bushes.I hammer it all the way! Spectators remark afterwards: AWESOME, GREAT DRIVING ETC. I WAS SCARED SHITLESS THE ENTIRE WAY!
It all seems like dream now. Afterwards I got lots of ATTABOYS'. Only two other rigs had made it, prior to my run.
I was so adrenalin jacked that once i got about 80% of the way up, where it's not so friggin' steep, I jumped outta' the Bronco & yelled: " How do you like that ya' Chevy Lovin' Cawksuckers!@!" My heart was POUNDING.
Later the women @ camp said: "We heard a very loud motor ROARING thru the trees" Then it sut off. The we heard:"Someone yelling REALLY LOUD something about "Cawksuckers".
Even though I had epic carnage later in day, it was an excellent adventure.:smokin:

Big79'Terry 06-13-2011, 07:51 PM So 2 years ago when Pro hooked me up w/the good heads he remarked;"You should really run a tach. & rev limiter w/these heads & your 4 speed". I said: "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah".........So 2 years later after my EPIC hillclimb followed by EPIC carnage (pinion yoke & H.A.D. CV) Big green Hunka' Junk was a-runnin' like crap. Here's why.........2 obviously FUBARRED:shaking: & 1 slightly bent. I figure that they got bent on hillclimb, 429 was runnin' crappy directly afterwards. I figured it was the carb. So last run of the day is when I broke the pinion & CV.....W/3 BENT pushrods! Even more asshattery.

How hard was the landing? Is it possible that the rear shaft was completely compressed when landing? Possibly adding to the shock loading of the instant traction and HP? Was the rear driveshaft completely compressed after the carnage had been diagnosed (when you were unbolting it)? Just curious... and maybe something to check out...
Proeliator 06-14-2011, 03:08 PM Now would be the appropriate time to yet again say "I told you so" :flipoff2:

thats sort of my predicament, i neglected to plastiguage, and/ or use a dial caliper when i installed bearings and crank in my 460 swap, and a week later im sitting on very low oil pressure at warm running temp. but at startup i have very high oil pressure, my low oil pressure issue could be my fault, or that of possibly a bad oil pump?? either way ill admit that i neglected to do something that i should have done

Big79'Terry 06-27-2011, 08:41 PM Upon further inspection... Intake/oil pan off,Pro convinced me to replace cam & lifters:(. Chromo-push rods are here. Pretty lucky all in all.
So that's what the inside of an Edelbrock lifter looks like?
82F100SWB 06-28-2011, 09:15 AM My engine developed a lifter tick not long after break-in... I have a supply of old spec 15W40 to feed it, but, I think this winter I'm going to be swapping it out to a roller. I hate to yank a cam that performs well and only has maybe 15-20 hours on it, but, if I'm fixing a lifter tick, I'm swapping the shit out. And, since I don't want one of the huge ass off the shelf grinds, I'm going to probably have to go custom... yuck.

Yea, I didn't see enough metal fleck in the oil to confirm he'd wiped a lobe, but like I told Terry with bending those chromoly pushrods and nuking a lifter; I'd just swap out cam and lifters as a package.
And, since I don't want one of the huge ass off the shelf grinds, I'm going to probably have to go custom... yuck.
I think I've said it before but I'll never build a non roller motor again, they are the way to go for sure. What's wrong with going with a custom grind?
cslimfu 06-28-2011, 05:12 PM I saw the "go custom, yuck" and was wondering too. Whats wrong with getting just what you want and not having to settle into what they have? Aren't all engines the same, why should the cams be?

My Dad was a FOMOCO man his whole life. I'll never forget him takin' me truck shopping in the early 70's,I must of been 10 or 11, we walked thru many Dealer lots lookin' for the right F2 Highboy. Pretty sure that's when I fell in love w/Fords. I've got both of his old Rangers, 2x2's & 4-poppers.
Since my junk wasn't driveable I was forced to perform the surgery in the back yard:shaking:. Yeah I limped it home on the front axle, after rebuilding driveline, w/3 bent pushrods & 1 fragged lifter(unbeknownst to me:homer:).

Big79'Terry 07-12-2011, 07:30 AM My 3 children are here for the summer:smokin:.So I didn't want to feel like an ass for spending time on my junk, my buddy installed cam/lifters for me yesterday. Got called in to work today for OT. So...possible cam break-in, later in week. Looking forward to rev-limited (no damaged parts) wheelin'. My kids want to go wheelin:D!
Proeliator 07-12-2011, 03:23 PM Yup, very cool :smokin:

Very cool of you to help Terry out, 'stang
Big79'Terry 07-16-2011, 02:24 PM Finished re-assembly this A.M. Totally DIGGIN' the no front fender look:D. Motor's all back together;new cam/lifters/chro-mo pushrods. Rev-limiter next. Cam is not broken in yet. Taking my kids to see Cars-2 this afternoon.
Big79'Terry 07-20-2011, 08:18 PM So this afternoon Pro comes over to help me cuz' I'm a dumbass:homer:!@ I'm a Bar-B-Q in' & Pro & another friend are "breakin' in the cam" @ what sounds like 6000 RPM. I walk over to Bronco & see oil pissin' all over ground, Pro's @ wheel w/cigar, @ what seems like bazillion RPM'S.
Would you let this man break in your cam?
All is well w/motor:DThanks Pro.
cslimfu 07-20-2011, 08:34 PM Note to self, don't let seth or terry have anything to do with my cam. You guys just keep eating them and leakin oil on the break in. The bad thing is I will probably ask seth for guidence when I start building something with some power.
73 ford guy 07-20-2011, 09:20 PM I'm just jealous you got good buddies that are willing to come help wrench on your junk for ya!
I got friends I go wheeling with but only show up when all tools are loaded, final wrenching is complete and everything I scrambled to throw together is done.
I've built my entire truck by myself. No one has ever helped me on any of it except my one buddy who is an electrical pro did some wiring a couple times but even he charges me an hourly rate as he's an field mechanic for work which is fine by me as I hate electrical!

Slim....I really hate to say this.....But yes Pro is the Shiznit when it comes to BBF's:smokin:
I'm just jealous you got good buddies that are willing to come help wrench on your junk for ya!
73....Sir Yes SIR, I feel extremely fortunate.
So last night I'm on nightshift & my buddy attempts to find TDC so he can finally fire it up. He's on the phone w/me while BBF is backfirin' thru carb/on fire. I suggested we wait for Pro.
Turns out that my oil pressure sending unit was leaking & VC's need new gaskets. Pro had my buddy add more oil, fired it back up & continued breakin' in the cam. While I Bar-B-Q'd chicken & burgers provided by my beautful wife & mother in law:eek:.We had a cam break in/Bar-B-Q ......only in Yanktonia!
AAHHHHH.....The sweet sound of a BBF @5500 RPM, A FINE CIGAR & THE SMELL OF AV100LL(AVGAS) MIXED W/BAR-B-Q:shaking:
73 ford guy 07-20-2011, 10:11 PM .....just a good ol boys....song comes to mind. Lol
5500 rpm hey. Seems high. I did mine at about 2500

That's about what I broke his in at, as well. It just sounded like more to Terry because he was probably a little nervous with me behind the wheel
73 ford guy 07-21-2011, 10:36 PM With my fresh 428 last winter I had a hell of a time getting it flashed up. I changed out electronic ignition conversion that blew a module, then put in a powermaster starter for slow crank issue but it turned out it was a bad battery even though it read over 12 volts. Anyways I turned over the motor more than I was comfortable with for concerns on cam so I called comp cams tech and they said just get the revs up higher to around 2500 rather than 1500-2000 rpm to get good oil flow and a good break in.

Big79'Terry 07-22-2011, 07:36 PM Slim...Rollers outta' my budget:(. Also...Yes I am extremely thankful for Pro's help.
Are ya' familiar w/movie Red Dragon? Remember when the murderer dude sends Lecter a note on TP? FBI gets the note, tries to decipher it? One of the FBI guys asks the question: "Why didn't he throw/flush it away?" Brilliant FBI guy answers: "Too many compliments."
See Pro's response above:shaking:.

cslimfu 07-22-2011, 08:28 PM Thats some funnay stuff right there. I have not seen red dragon, sorry not my type of movie. I did see silence of the lambs years ago so, I am familiar with the demented yet brilliant line of narcissistic thinking. Meaning, I get the point of what youre saying. Good times to all. Marfilicous ownin' the bog. Next pass I suggested she use 3rd gear/Low range, this pass was 2nd gear. The deep rut on drivers side of bog is what keeps all the wanna'-be's on the strap.
Obviously, vid is from several months ago during wet weather.
mustange70 07-26-2011, 10:16 AM Mr. terry, I have no idea when i'll be able to get down to the farm next to get that limiter mailed out (stuck working way to much over the next month and half, add into that I've just bought a house things are a tad bit busy for me), just a heads up.

Stang....IT'S ALL GOOD MY FOMOCO BROTHER! PM me your addy & I'll pay for shipping:D.
In other related news: My (correct me if I'm wrong) Fomoco "BAJA" radiator (26"x31"x3" 40 lb.monster) was in need of repair. Mac's in PDX wanted to re-core it,tank was loose, many leaks blah blah blah. Finally got to talk to shop guy on Friday....he said he'd do what he could to save my "BAJA". He not only cleaned it, saved it & repaired it: He warrantied it. $150 samolians.:smokin:
In the last couple of months I've personally witnessed 2 plastic oil pressure lines FAIL. We went w/VDO copper capillary line. New mechanical gauge & 160* T-stat.
Pro made me get a real oil pressure gauge last time we worked on my junk, to replace my 3 pod cheapie. So I got a new Temp. gauge as well.
Gladdy the bulldog liked the rad.
mustange70 07-26-2011, 05:53 PM Them rad's are frickin huge, same one i run in the race truck.
82F100SWB 07-27-2011, 07:32 PM What's wrong with going with a custom grind?
Thanks to being in Canuckistan, even though our dollar is at 1.05 US, it's still price, shipping/duty/etc are the killer. I can get off the shelf stuff locally at comparable prices without the shipping, etc, but not custom. That said, a roller retrofit will have me spending more on cam/lifters than I have invested in most of the current engine.
For oil pressure lines, I throw away the nylon stuff that comes with the guages, and use air brake line, I have not had a failure yet. I have seen both the nylon, and copper fail. Copper will eventually work harden and break from vibration.

Yup, I've had both nylon and copper fail as well. I prefer the SS with AN fittings but I sure don't like the price. Hadn't thought about using air brake line.
edit: Also, just got back from helping my bbf padawan. As always I worked for tacos :D
Big79'Terry 07-28-2011, 09:14 AM Yup, just got back from helping my bbf padawan. As always I worked for tacos :D
Mucho Gracias:D
So as I ease into my 7 day work week, I'm pumped knowing my Hunka' Junk is all back together & runnin' properly. Spent all day yesterday re-installing body work & all the details. Pro has rescued me umpteen times thru this last thrash fest.
Big79'Terry 07-28-2011, 04:46 PM Wait a minute......my junk & Pro's are both a-runnin'! Redneck Provin' Grounds(Tims) weekend of Aug. 6th?
cslimfu 07-28-2011, 05:33 PM 160, bbbbrrrrrr. I saw a wear chart with water temp vs cylinder wall wear. 160 had double the wear of 190. I really wish I could find it. But if that what it takes to keep it from 250, it's just fine. I think a little extra wear vs overheating is way better. Is the august run a private deal?
Big79'Terry 07-29-2011, 11:15 AM Is the august run a private deal?
Not necessarily, the standard rules will apply, I believe you know what they are. But yes, not a public dealio.

While a lower degree t-stat like a 160 unit does equate to more wear over a comparable 190 as you mentioned, cooler temperatures also equal more power. I wouldn't run a 160 unit in a daily driver, but it makes great sense in a toy.
Wait a minute......my junk & Pro's are both a-runnin'! Redneck Provin' Grounds(Tims) weekend of Aug. 6th?
Just remember I won't be yarding your stuck ass out of a hole if I'm on dry ground again. No need to repeat the events of last august :flipoff2:

Now correct me if I'm wrong......Did you not choose to run your "street tires" & not your agricultural orchard implement tires; "tranny rapers" unless it's mud like?
Hell.... I'll try to unstuck ya' from the swamp, if that don't work we'll have to winch ya':homer: Took 2 rigs w/winches to unstuck me last time in the swamp. Just so ya' know...last weekend the swamp was completely covered in water, you could NOT see the ruts visible in the pic below. It's the Black Lagoon Dude:flipoff2:.

That is, in fact, what I'd originally been thinking. However, upon reflection running the 42's would not only be gay, this little tidbit:
last weekend the swamp was completely covered in water, you could NOT see the ruts visible in the pic below. It's the Black Lagoon Dude:flipoff2:.
Ensured that I would in fact, be running the ags. Its the only way to be sure :D

They got some pics from last time, but no vid. Its been so damn long since I've had mine out flogging it Terry said there should be plenty of vid recorders there. I'm always driving, so I never take any, I don't even own a vid recorder. I was thinking it would be cool to get a dash cam though...
