: Bad syncros....I think?

I have a 93 toyota 4wd pickup that I just purchased. It's a 4cyl and a 5 speed. The truck drives fine and the transmission works great if your already moving. I always put my truck I neutral when I'm stopped at a light or stop sign. The problem is, when the light turns green and I try to shift in to gear it's really tough to get into any gear. I either have to rev the engine which allows it to slip into gear pretty easily or wiggle the shifter between several different gears before it lets me into one. After it finally goes into a gear, with the clutch depressed, it will go into any gear with ease. Are my syncros bad?

Also, I remember back in the day, people used to run like half and half ATF and gear oil in a tranny to clean all the crap out of the inside. Does that work? Anyone ever done that?

I have heard of mixing some ATF in the tranny. As you are already in bad shape, I think it might be worth a try. Best option is to just have a rebuild kit on hand and pull the thing in a weekend.

Trying adjusting/replacing the clutch? First?

the clutch is recent and functions properly. I would just pull and rebuild the tranny regardless except it is my daily driver. Not to mention I just got married, just bought a house, and my wife just got laid off. I don't really have tons of cash just laying around unfortunately. I was hoping the ATF in the tranny would do the trick. Anyone else ever try it? I'm really hoping for the easy fix. I know I'm shooting for the moon, but I really don't have the cash or time (new house is a fixer upper) for a rebuild right now.

Okay, get rid of the wife (divorce is expensive, but staying married will bankrupt you (don't ask me how I know))

Fix the trans, and you will be good to go.
