This is a little stretch for shop talk but I know there are people from every background on here. I bought a new water softener and am confused with the plumbing. There was one installed but the previous owners took it with.

I can't attach a picture of the single valve bypass valve I am trying to use. It was left from the previous owner but I have not seen this type of fitting before. There is an o-ring seal coming out of the valve and a single bolt to the side of the male part with the o-ring to hold the fitting snug. This is just a new one to me. Can I find this at the normal hardware stores?

How can I add a picture? I can send them to someone if they can add them for me.

It sounds like a proprietary fitting to mate to the ion exchange column of the softener. Contact your softener supplier.

The softener side is easy and done. The problem is with the existing bypass valve. I am trying to go through the Nibco catalog now but can't find it. It is a simple male 1" o-ring with a side bolt as an anchor.

we need a pic, you need a red star or host it on photobucket etc and link it.

And this is a litle closer. There is absolutly no grove or ring beyond where the o-ring sits.

Those are the fittings from the water softener. They may be threaded into the bypass valve. Mine are similar and screw right into the valve. Easiest thing to is replace the bypass valve (my softener came with one) if you can't get it apart.
