Hey everyone, I'm from the NW suburbs, looking for some more people to wheel with since my bud had a kid and can't go as often. I usually try to go to the badlands once a month or so except recently w/ school is been less. Usually like to do the trails but mostly the rock quarry/red trail. If anyone wants to plan trip let me know, a few guys on another site are trying to work something out for beginning or end of june.

Check out Great Lakes at http://www.gljt.org. That group is based out of the Chicagoland area and is quite active.

LOL, there isn't any place close to Skokie to wheel.

The Iron Horse 4x4 club, down on the south side near Indiana used to wheel a place that they called Lock & Dam. If I remember, it was on Torrence ave at 130th, or somewhere near there. Real close to where the Ford Taurus plant was. Is that still around? At one time, they had an arrangement with the train company who owned it. They cleaned it up in exchange for "special priveleges". It was a small area, but fun to wheel. Mostly mud and burnt out cars.

I kind of doubt I'll be getting out this summer... new baby, two jobs (the on-the-side hardware business is starting to take up some time) and the state of my car make me think I'm not going to have it finished for a while..Hell, I'm lucky if I spend a couple hours a week working on it.

Here is what it looks like right now

Awesome, thanks! I've never been there before so I'd love to get out there with someone who's at least familiar with the place. Thanks!

Do you drive your rig down there or trailer it? I'm thinking I'm going to have to rent a trailer and haul it down there, it doesn't really like highway speeds too much.

EDIT: Darkstar, that looks like a serious build there, very nice. Congrats on the new baby, too!

iron horse 4x4s in NW indiana, we've been around for almost 30 years, we dont get a chance to wheel as much as we'd like to, were all a little older now, and most with families. our club is open to ANY 4x4 from stockers, trail only rigs and high horsepower lifted trucks on 44's and everything in between stop by our website @ www.ironhorse4x4s.com weve got a truck only show coming up in august.. stop by and see

best advice is stay OUT of lock and dam. it's now a FEDERAL wildlife preserve now. tresspassing carries FEDERAL charges. last guys i heard of that got caught out there had vehicles impounded, driving privleges suspended and had to cough up some serious $$$$ in fines. it's patrollled by city, state, county, federal and railroad police. and they will take everything from you and lock you up. as far as i know theres NO place that you can legally wheel anywhere in the area. lets be smart, and stay off private property. head out to the cliffs or the badlands pay the $20 and stay legal

I agree with you 100% and was not trying to promote illegal activities of any kind. The last time I was there was with your club at a (somewhat) organized wheeling event. It's too bad it isn't open anymore. I had a lot of fun there.
