how much do you like turning? I welded the front on my brother's shortbed chev (smallblock/400/205/44/14bolt/38.5 hawgs) stock power steering and both hubs locked=no more tuning than if you were to get out and kick the tire a few times, then continue on a VERY large arc......to sum it up.......it sucks...get hydro or unlock a hub when you want to turn :D

Thanks. I guess with fulltime slugs this is simply not an option for me.

It is not that bad. I have a welded front end on my wag that is a 6k vehicle with just a little loss in steering over my once open diff. I would not hesitate to do it again compared to the performance I got!!!!!

Josh it is a pain in the ass. The last trip I made was the worst trip of my life due to the welded front and stock steering. So, I just finished a hydroassist, and it turns like a dream now. One finger steering locked up on the street as a test. It's nice :D

You MUST reinforce your frame and build that brace first dude.

Call and order a ring spacer, and a rebuild kit for my trash-loc and you can use that, you'll fawk up the frame worse then last time, and I don't want to hear you whine the entire way out from the box if you tear up the steering.

Please do, then you can reweld the rest of the frame. Things scary, it definatley needs some 1/4" plate supporting it.

btw it wasnt the box moving last time

it was the frame

scouts do that often?

Thats the problem with scouts & big tires. I'll weld the dif on the trail too ( if it realy becomes an issue ).

Mikes welds cam out so nice I don't think I'll have any problem through the rest of this season.

I'm just looking o make it through the box. I guess my first run ever up the soup bowl will determin if I attempt the lil sluice.

I'll go ahead and run open.

A good locker will unlock one wheel in a sharp turn with good traction. Welded will bind and may bust a joint.:(
