Got a 67" front coming and still have a 60" rear. I am either going to cut the front down or get a new housing and shafts for the rear.

I'm leaning towards full width but want real world advise.

My outsde to outside width is 83.750" and it works pretty good but the problem is that the rear is the same and I wish it was 1.5-2" per side narrower because the rear clips rocks all the time or when turning I have just run them over where it would be nice to miss a few of them.

Hey 66cjdean, I know your up at the con alot. I havn't driven mine up there yet, but I'm at 86" outside to outside. Do you get buy most of the tight spots after the slabs ok? going towerds the sluice to clarify.

You guys are wider than my Blazer.It sits at 81" in rear and 82" in front.I just started stripping it and swapping everything on to my CJ-5.My rear rims have 1" more backspacing now but will swap all of them over to stock rims which will bring the front in to 80" and the rear in to 78".I am running the Q78 swampers.I like the width.Should work out good.Blazin:D

The con is easy to get around on but Fordyce and Berrett is tighter. I don't fit through winch hill 3 on Fordyce.

Is there a bypass on winch hill 3 ? I havn't been to fordyce yet for some reason. Or do you have to drive like you own a toyota.:rasta:

There is a bypass at 3.

My personal preference is for wider is better....I'm running a full width chevrolet d60 front 69.5 wms and a 14 bolt from a 3/4 van 69.5 wms with 42x15.5 on 15x10 with 3in. backspacing. Even though my jeep is what I consider a little too tall, I have yet to feel unstable.

I'm very happy with the full width axles I have, but I am running hummer wheels to keep things tucked in. (CJ7 w/ 1ton chevy axles & 38*12.50s)

do you have a pic of you jeep with hummer rims and full width d60? i want to know how much they stick out. i am a 64" WMS to WMS with 15x10 wheels and 3.5 BS.

Well, keep in mind a hummer wheel is 8.25" wide, with roughly 7" of BS...so with a 64" WMS, the inside wheel edge to inside wheel edge measurement will be 50". Outer wheel edge to outer wheel edge will be roughly 66.5". Center of wheel to center of wheel (track) will be roughly 58.5".

My hummer wheels on my full width 67" WMS 14 Bolt fit perfectly under my YJ.

I'm at 60" WMS to WMS right now with my Waggy Dana 44 front and EB 9", and I'd stay there but my 35's hit the frame under articulation front and rear, so my next generation of the 4Bangler will be with narrowed full-sizers cut down to about 63-64" WMS to WMS, just scored an F-250 HP Dana 44 for $75 and now they make 5.38's for HP (they didn't when I built the Waggy axle) so here we go!

To answer the question: Hell no. I love it.

I run a CJ-7 thats 80" in front and 77" in the rear. When I first got the front end my intent was to put a wider rear end in it. After running it for awhile I like it a lot just the way it is for the same reasons 66 CJ Dean expressed. It follows around rocks nicely. I just got back from a a trip where we ran Fordyce, Rubicon, and Barret Lake and I got along fine. I got through winch hill 3 on Fordyce, ran little sluice and got onto the Barret Lake trail all be it by rubbing the posts on both sides. By the way it was an outstanding trip!

I'm 65" WMS-WMS front and rear....I was thinking that I should have gone narrower in the rear but is there really that big of a difference if the rear were...say 2" narrower? Especially if the wheelbase was kept stock and not lengthened.

Oh, and to answer the original question...I would definately go with "wider is better"... although most of the trails out here demand that you have an outside width of 83" or below.

Outside width of 86"F 84"R here. It's great, sometimes it's hard to fit through things so you just sidehill more. And there's something to be said for crazy sidehill capabilities.

If anything else, you will be more stable, and with all the lift you have, that is a good thing. Nobody likes to flop.

Depends on where you wheel. Many places in the Pacific Northwest. I've seen fullwidth and can see where fullwidth would be a pain in the ass. Just because of going between trees, rock faces/cliffs, etc.

do any of you guys with a larger tire like a 14 or 14.50s drive on the street with ur full widths . Mainly concering the tires sticking out

I don't know about out there in California, but here in TN things are pretty laxed. Now that I have cut my front fenders my tires are completly outside the fenders. I drive it on the road quite often, both around town and to the trails. So far (knock on wood), I have never been pulled over in it. Also, one time my thermostat was sticking and I had to pull over to the side of the interstate going up a hill to let it cool down a state trooper pulls up behind me (after I'd already been sitting there about 10 minutes.) and comes up and asks if my jeep was overheating. I said Yea, so he asks what temp it got to, and eventually said, "Well, I don't want you to hurt your jeep, but this is not a safe place to pull over, and if you can make it about a 1/2 mile up this hill if flattens out and there is an exit." I said thanks and took off.

I went full width....and Im never going back! It was the best thing that I ever did. I run rubicon and fordyce all the time. When I get to squeeze rock, I just go up sideways and make it fit.

I feel theat it does make a big difference. My wheelbase is 1" over stock.
