Hey guys, I bought this Limited Slip from a dude on Craigs list,
I checked it... it fits my 35 spline HP Dana 60 front axle shafts.

I wanted to check to verify if anyone can varify for sure
for me if this is indeed a Trak-Loc or Trac-Lok or however you spell it?
If anyone is familiar with theses... is there a way to tell if it's a NEWER model or an OLDER one? Ive read the OLD ones are weak & crappy..
But since it's 35 spline I'm assuming its a newer one.. but not positive.

Also, rebuild them and installing new clutches? Is this a hard job?
im new to this posi thing. Thanks guys

looks like one...add more clutches...35 spline probably newer..dunno on a rebuild...when mine slipped I added 6018 and ran it (welded the diff)

Mine is up front.. Im not gonna weld it.

I didn't think you could Add more plates?
I've heard of REstacking them... not adding. Makes sense though.

yes that's a trac-loc.

not much better than an open diff IMHO.

Yeah.....I've heard of both. Reverse the order and put in more......put in more once cuz they fit, seemed to work.

yeah, once they start slipping they hog into the carrier then... boom, split in half. had it happen 3 times in two different rigs of mine and once in a buddies.

I've hear really good things about running Trac Lok up front?
How can a limited slip not be any better than an open diff...
It was $140 shipped! You recommend that I weld it? Yea, that will steer great on rocks.

So who do poeple run them then?

they don't have a lot of torque biasing.

If you want a limited slip, then look for a powerloc. Much stronger with 4 spider gears, and higher torque biasing.

A trac-loc is barely better than an open diff.

i am thinking you meant why do people run them. because they dont know better. also alot of rigs came with them off the line. and people also think a limited slip is better than nothing.

should I sell it and use the money toward a Lock Rite?

depends on how big of tires, what axle, motor, driving style and what youre doing. big tires and motor balls out will eat the lock rite. i had one in my 44 with 38'' and mild 460. not so good. buddy with 38'' and a 60 with a healthy 400 held up till he drove 50 miles with 1 hub in. i went to a detroit in a 60 with 42'' and never had a problem it was mainly in the mud. for a fire trail rig and some off roading maybe a hunting rig, its fine.

Isn't there something missing in that pic? I am thinking the "S" shaped spring between the side gears?

OK. I know the Ford trac-loc in the 7.5 and 8.8 have that spring.

The Dana LS used belleville springs between each side gear and clutch pack for preload.

Ya Id Say Just Weld The Diff I Ran Front Welded Sems To Be Good On Road When Not Usin 4wd. Offroad It Dominates. I Ran It On Snow On Road 65+ Dont See Why People Need 4wd On Dry Pave
