Often times, whenever I need to properly torque something, a socket cannot be used. Instead of spending big bucks for those torque wrenches that accept inserts, I just pop a crows foot on my torque wrench.

However, then I run into the case where I have to do it on BIG SHIT. My crowsfoot set only goes to 19mm. Now, I hate spending $20 - $30 on a crowsfoot that I'll barely use. Today I ran into a problem where I needed a 30mm crowsfoot. I was searching for 30mm crosfoot on the internet to buy, when I looked down at my adjustable wrench/all-sixteenths/MexicanWrench whateve you want to call it.

I thought "If that fucker had a 3/8" (or 1/2") square hole in it, and was really short, it would solve all my problems! Anyone ever seen anything like this? If not, I guess it would have to maybe be machined from an existing adjustable wrench. Like I could find a machinist with enough time to do that kind of stuff.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

They are pretty handy, built 2 myself. I found this photo and it gave me a few ideas. I have seen an adjustable crowfoot wrench in 0"-1", 1/2" drive made by Snap-On, very nice, had a scale on it. :smokin:

Thats fucking pimp! Do you have a part number? That pic is not Snap On I don't think. It has another name. I really need one that is 1" and larger though....

However, the way they put the drive behind the adjuster makes it pretty damn hi-clearance. I'd just like an adjustable wrench with the handle cut off, and a 3/8" hole right behind the adjusting wheel.

Anyone have an idea how to make it? I can only think of a way to get a circular hole. I guess I could drill a hole, and then file it out, however all my files are tapered and I may wallow out the hole. Plus it would take an eternity to manually file it.

I built mine "somewhat" like the one in the photo, I believe that is a Williams product. I used some old, used tools to build mine. I cut the handle off of an adjustable wrench, cut down a 1/2 drive socket, then welded it on the side. It works okay, but you need to build one to turn cw and one to turn ccw. It would be nice to have a 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" etc. square milled in, then you could flip it. The adjustable wrench's I used did not have enough material to mill a hole. :smokin:

ADD: Here is a photo of the Snap-On tool http://toolmonger.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/post-adjcrow.jpg

Google is your friend when you know the part number! :)

Googling "adjustable crows foot" brings up some pretty wierd shit!

Fawker.... now when I did that, it is only showing TOOLS! Time to break out the tin foil hats!

I keep looking at wire edm machines, as it would be tool cool to just sketch and build crows feet as a need them. :flipoff2:

What is that big that you actually need a torque wrench? Impact that shit!

Wouldn't a crows foot throw off the reading from the torque wrench?

Not if used at a 90* angle. however, the odds are, an adjustable one will always be somewhat off, except with one size of bolt.

cut off a wrench,then weld a short 3/8 or 1/2'' exstension to it.done!

Uhh...weld an old socket or extension to it? :flipoff2:

And, if you're using the crowsfoot inline with the wrench...the math goes like this-
E- Effective length of extension - measured along the centerline of the torque wrench. L Lever length of the wrench - center of grip to center of drive. T(W) - Torque set on the wrench. T(E)- Torque applied by the extension to the fastener.

T(W) = T(E)* L/L+E
T(E) = T(W)* (L+E)/L

go to harbor freight and get the wrench set you need. a 3/8th or 1/2in broach make the square hole for you. just a thought.

Or weld a 3/4 nut to it and use a socket...

williams made great tools, but good luck finding one of those they have been gone for a long time now
