I just got a 1978 class c motorhome.Ford 460. What is required for california smog, I don't think this thing even has cats. Egr? Can I change the carb and put some headers on it? I doubt it.

It originally had a CAT unless there is a special exemption since it is a motorhome.

Maybe not! My 1979 F350 is classified as a ton truck and was therefore smog exempt. It had NO cats or smop pump from the factory. It even has that info on the factory sticker on the valve covers.

^...what he said. In CA those years smog equipment was determined by gvw. My dad bought a '79 F-350 4x4 400 new specifically because it had no cat or air pump. It was obviously a commercial vehicle, I don't know if the exemption applied to a motor home.

Yes you can... A set of headers, a straight up timing chain, and mess with timing/jetting...
