: A Word about Law Enforcement on Fordyce

I have been asked by the TNF to pass along a request and a friendly warning about law enforcement in the Fordyce area. Although Rattlesnake Road has been opened there are still snow drifts in spots. If you cannot make it through them DO NOT try driving off the road to get around. Go back or winch through. The road is patrolled and if a user is seen causing resource damage trying to bypass they will be cited. They have opened the road trusting we will not abuse it. Please don't.

Eagles Lakes is patrolled as well. Hopefully this will help discourge the thefts that were common. It will also make driving marginally street legal vehicles from Cisco to Indian Springs trail head a crap shoot. FOF recommends not doing it. I personally drop my rig and hitch a ride back. Recently I even dropped the rig and jogged back through the forest.

Two years ago when he was newly hired the FOF gave the new TNF LEO a ride through the Fordyce. He had several oportunities to give users a hard time for behavior and he didn't. He patrols on an dual sport motorcycle and his name is Kurt. He is a great guy and if you met him in a um, "professional" capacity please be courteous. If you just run into him say hi and introduce yourselves. He truly appreciates our views while also trying to do his job.

Thanks,

Bret

I had the pleasure to speak with Kurt at length recently and he assured me that the problems at Indian Springs with rigs getting broken into were well known, and they are doing their best to remedy the problem.

Not saying that the problem has gone away but it was great to hear that the TNF has listened to our complaints and are trying to help us out. Very cool imo, and really cool to see an LEO that is sympathetic to us :smokin:

I agree! It's nice to know they want to help.

Bret, did they say anything about green sticker rigs on Rattlesnake Road? I know at the 3 DEIS meetings I went to they said they were going to enforce no green stickers on Rattlesnake Road. It's going to suck if they do.:(

I haven't talked to anyone about that recently.

My personal belief (so don't take this for fact) is that as long as you aren't speeding they will not be enforcing street registed only at least until after Travel Management takes effect.

That doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about at all and if you asked any LEO I'm sure they would have tell you that the law is no green sticker vehicles.

Wow, that could put some folks out of business. :(

Was up there last weekend when it opened and still lots of snow. Very difficult to get back from Fordyce lake. The last road up had lots of holes with rivers running under them and really no place to winch to.

Should melt rather quickly but more of a warning if you are going up this Memorial Weekend. Also, PG&E at the cabin said flows could reach up to 500 cfs but will be at least around 400 cfs because of the snow melt.

Was very surprised to see that much snow up there.

I was actually one of the people that Kurt gave a break,
when he was on a ride along.Lucky I got off with a warning.
Open container doesn't look good on the driving record!!
That was the first time I had gotten pulled over for many years, and who
would have guessed on Fordyce.:smokin:

Speeding is my personal vice...what is the speed limit again? 25 or 35MPH?
