So after searching for a 3.50 geared rearend for my wheeler to match the 60 front, I finally found a 70U under a truck my buddy picked up for free..

1983 F-250, 8600lb GVW, smooth bottom(obviously 70U).. 3.50 gears, just what I need.. Do after fighting to get the first 3 u bolts off, I decide to take the tire off the so I don't catch it on fire with the torch.. And what do you know, it's a SF:mad3: Of course, it had those stupid hub covers on it, so I couldn't tell till I took the tires off..

So is this some uber rare axle or something...? I've never seen one, or even anything mentioned when searching.. either way, I'm going to have to keep looking for an axle i guess.. or regear the front to match one of my sterlings or 10.25's..

no, I can get one though...
But really, just picture the center of any normal 70U I guess, with drums and flanges like a 60SF

What number is cast into the lateral flange off the pumpkin? Should have a raised 70 if thats what it is.

i have seen some smooth bottom d60's out of ford vans before. i just passed one over that was on craigslist for $60 because it was sf.

I just sold a 60 housing that was smooth like a 70. it was a FF before the spindles were cut off to narrow. Had it sitting around for years and never did anything with it.
