My wife and I are looking at Motor Homes right now to live on the Road for 2010, We have a budget of around 55,000 or alittle more if we sacrifice some things.
So we are Looking at Class and some Class A Motor Homes, and one thing I've noticed is there aren't many diesel Chassis.
Can a Ford V10 or a Chevy 6.0 Really take care of business even with a Cherokee in tow? I not even a fan of the V10 in the Super Duty's.
Also those of you who have a motor home and pull a trailer would you care to give any advice?

Should pull with no prob. I have a 34' and the inlaws have a 32' both with 454s and havent had any issues towing. Our old class C had a v-10 it pulled great but the brakes SUCKED. Either way get used to stoping at the gas stations

I bought a 1995 36 foot Country Coach diesel pusher primarily because it is RATED to tow 7000 pounds. And I have to say that the older diesel motorhomes from reputable manufacturers appeared to be better built than newer gassers when I was shopping.

I've got a 96 Class C with the 460 and it tows fine. It slows down on the hills etc but still gets me there with nice living quarters. Is the Cherokee a wheeler or more streetable? If the later then you can flat tow it just fine and save some weight.
In your budget you should be able to find a good diesel. Right now its a buyers market and you should be able to get wholesale pricing and even better on newer larger units. Nada sells and RV wholesalers guide that will show you the real prices and is a handy tool when dealing with dealerships.

It's streetable but I want the insurance/security of the trailer just in case I break and can't fix it right away I'll still be mobile.
We actually started looking at some older diesel pushers that are in our price range, but those just depend on financing.

Look around my area for a foretravel motor home. They are made in Nac and are pretty nice. The older ones can be had for around 30k and many had Cat diesels. Several guys in my club use them to pull their rigs and they have plenty of power.

Be really careful when you look at the Gasser and smaller diesels. Most Class C and Class A gas powered buses are not rated to tow very much. A lot are limited to 5k. A 5,000lb tow rating is great for flat towing a Saturn but it sucks for a trailer and a rig. I had to get in to a 40' Class A diesel pusher before I got the floorplan and 10K tow rating I wanted.
I definitely wouldn't trade the extra power, mileage, and the exhaust brake on the diesel pusher for a gas bus any day. As others have mentioned you can find a used DP for cheap these days. Lots of choices out there.

FYI - Tow rating on a 2008 Daymon Daybreak is 5,000lb / 500lbs tongue weight.

I would hit up your local craigslist and watch. Your price range is great and you should be able to find a great coach with all the goodies. At dealer lots I would look in the 80-90k price range and push to negotiate down.. (They've got room to move) The Nada wholesale guide will really open your eyes. I will check the price on the coach your looking at in my nada book tomorrow.

Thanks, we are looking at everything right now. It looks like towing the Jeep on a trailer will put me in a certain class already since I'm really pushing some of the tow ratings on alot that we are looking at.
