any suggestions on whether or not to run the swamper LTB 34x10.50 on my 96 Ram 1500 - ext. cab short box.
i would like to keep them on my 16x7 facotry wheels. i have wrangler td 265/75-16 right now and just finished a 3 inch superlift. it is a daily driver and will see mud, sand, but little rock and hill climbing. don't want anything real noisy on the highway.

Don't buy bias TSL's if you're looking for a good highway tire, especially a QUIET one. These are neither pavement friendly, nor quiet. As overpriced as they are, I'd suggest BFG MT's. I personally prefer Cooper STT's for pavement duty & the occasional slop, but they're kinda noisey. The BFG's are about as quiet as you can get & still be worth a schit in the slop. You could probably fit 315/75's with a 3" lift.

wow, when the hell did PBB picked up this "kinder and gentler" side  Guess i'll be nice to the noo-b pavement pounder too:flipoff2:

I'm all with TEX on this one. I run Cooper STT's on my daily driver that I (for some reason) also take on mild 'wheelin trips (kind of defeats the purpose of having separate DD and trail trucks doesn't it). They are a great mix on and off-road tire if sharp rocks are not a priority. If you 'wheel in places where you need tougher sidewalls, the BFG's are probably worth the extra money because of that aspect. But if that's not a priority, the STTs are a great mainly street/some trail tire for a big savings over the BFG's.

The only downside of the STTs for someone like you is choice in size. They are available in most "popular" sizes, but oddities like 34x10.50 probably aren't going to happen. HTH:D

just goes to show if you phrase your question properly you get descent replys ;)

if you pound the pavment i would only run a radial tire..

BFG MT
GoodYear MTR
Wild County RVT
Swamper SSR
Cooper SST
Yokohama MT

those are just some that i can think of off the top of my head that woulf fit the bill...

you can usually find a good deal on the wild countrys locally and they last a very long time... i think tyhr RVt comes in several different tread patterns get the one with the sideways, open ended triangles in the center tread...

oh yea 15x8 inch rims should fit on your rig since its a 1500 and will save you big bucks on tires.. you could fit a 35x1250 on a 16x7 but dont expect the best wear..

Is the consensus that 34x10.5x16 will fit alright on the 16x7?

Sure a 34x10.5 will fit on a 15x7.

Also, the biggest you can go is 315 on 16x8 with 4.5" of backspacing. With any less backspacing, 33" are you max (my 33" rub on my ram.

Also, I wouldnt recomment the Yoko MT's. According to the horses mouth, they last max 15k.

I had BFG muds (not KO's tho) and never liked them much. Too slipery on the road for a DD. Wanted to get some coopers, but they were going through a re-deisgn or something like that last year, and the tire shop couldnt get them. Went with a 33" dunlop AT and they are the perfect tire for me (but I see VERY little mud).
Other than that, my MTR's are 90% as quiet as my dunlops on the road. BFG muds were much louder, but still no swamper.

sipe the BFGs if you live in an area that gets much rain... they get pretty slick on wet pavement.
