I am looking for a good welding book/manual and looking for some input. I know there are a lot of good welders on this site and any help would be appreciated. I bought a Lincon mig welder after my last deployment and haven't even had a chance to try it out. That was about a year ago and I am once again in the desert, so I figure I might as well learn while I'm here. I can cetianly make pieces stick together, but I know nothing about the theroy and practice. Thanks for any help.

Hi Wayne

The best book I have ever come across in 30 some years . I have looked at quite a few.

Is called Welding Principles&Practices By Raymond Sacks published by Charles Bennett and Company Peoria Illinois 61614

Now I must have had this book a long time I don`t know if it is still being published.

By far the best book for someone just starting out in fact this book was used a lot by the votechs in the late seventies and eighties.

Hope this was some help.

You need the bible from Lincoln.

https://ssl.lincolnelectric.com/lincoln/apdirect/item.asp?prodnum=PH

This will tell you everything you could possibly want to know about welding and much more than you even knew existed. It had diagrams for different welding procedures and joints, charts for amperage/electrode size, conversion charts, ect...

When I went to school (college level) for welding this was the "textbook" we used. The instructors also referred to it as the "Welding Bible". It's an EXCELLENT resource, but not light reading by any means. It is a great book.
