The C6 in my rig is on its last legs and I am thinking of going through it. A few months back(ok like last july) in petersen's I read an article on JET beefing up a C6 with some lower gears and a whole lot of other stuff. The down side is they want 1400$ for it. this is way out of bugget. Now alot of the gears they use are out of a E40D, and I think I have a burnt one sitting around but I don't know for sure, so if someone could tell me how to identify one and what it would have come out of i'd apreciate it. Also if someone has done this before is there something I should know that isn't in the mag. Any advice on what clutches to buy, which servo, and is it worth the 250$ to have them modify my valve body or is this something i can do myself. Any info will be greatly apreciated, Thanks John

BTW I did try the search first!!

i paid $1500 to have the 46RH in my ram rebuilt and modified with top-shelf components. i felt that i got a fairly good deal.

i now have a 49RH with diesel OD, modified trans-go shift kit, kevlar bands, "cool steel" stuff, and some other custom mods...i like it!

Ok but were talking about a dime a dozen C6 not a diesel trans out of a dodge

um...he rebuilt my 46RH with HD parts out of a dodge diesel tranny, some GM thrust washers, and a Transgo shift kit.

more of what i'm trying to say is that IF you can find somebody that really knows what they are doing, you can get something better than the JET stuff for the same price, if not cheaper.

this guy builds trannies (all makes) in his garage (zero overhead costs). most of his rebuilds are stock, but he does know how to do the mods (pay for knowledge).

no, $1400 is not outrageous for a good AT.

You get what you pay for, not saying that the guy with the biggest most expensive name is the best. Just shop around and see there are a lot of options, but its buyer beware go with a trusted source, they can tell you this and that and give you a pile of 96#%^%$! If you need a number of a shop that does what ever you want that does mail order and cheaper than jet PM me.

not to be mean but im after some input to help me be able to do this myself there is just no way I can aford the 1400 or anything even close to it. I have maybe 400-500$ tops. I know it wont end up as good as it could be but Its better than nothing.

SVO also sell a wide ratio upgrade kit for the C-6. THe main part that is replaced is the plantary gearset, which yields a lower first and second gear than a standard C-6. Another benefit of this mod is that you get a six pinion plantary over the three pinions on the stock one, making it stronger. I'd get ahold of SVO and find out if there are any special parts in that kit or if you can get it all out of an E4OD, that plus the instruction sheet should be all you need.

I told the guy at JET that I might have a E4OD and he said "well there is all your gears". so what else I would need I think is a clutch and band kit, a servo and what valve body modifications. Am I forgetting any thing?
