I would look towards going with a 4.09 ratio myself

what about 4.11 instead

stay the middle ground, 4.10 best of both worlds.

front and rear?

nope, just front... keep the 3.08 rear end for better mileage in 2wd:smokin:

actually a 3.55 up front and 4.10 in the back would be best, ecspecially in 4 lo

the 205 load isn't enough though

no lockers, spool it front and rear too. I do like the 3:08 in the rear but with a 38" tire I would do a 456. Do you also need to know how tall of a lift to use to fit those 38's?

to answer the question honestly...

i would go to 4.88s, front and rear with a small block and a fullsized truck. if it had a big block, 4.56s or 4.10s. that would be fine for 38s.

no no no, not a 205, a 203/205, that way you have an amazing lo ratio

get a Klune Goliath, an atlas 4 speed case, and a lomax 205, then run the rear output into a Spicer (Browne-Lipe) brownie box... thatll give you plenty of gear selection... 3.08s, with 50 different gear selection options, and a stout overdrive, to boot.

I bet you could get an 11 hp briggs and stratton to pull 80 mph with that setup... presuming no hills.

seriously, go to the newbie section and ask the question again. Or you could always use the search feature. We would need what tranny you are running and transfer case and maybe the year of the truck and what you intend to do with it. I had a 700r4 in my K5 and 4:10 gears with 37 inch tires and it was a dog. I would definately go with a 4:88.

Grumpy has good advice.

DO it.

if you're going to change gears, I'd go to 4.88s.
I run a 89 K-5, 350, 700r4, 241, 14 bolt rear, 38" Nittos.
works well all around.

yeah if that 355 has some awesome balls run it. im running a 400 in a truck that has 4.11s and had 38s for a while. great rpms on the highway. i would just run 4low offroad. i just tell everyone buy your tires, drive it around for a while and see how it does. if you think it needs more power. swap gears
