I'm a high school shop teacher and we have 2 shop out fitters scroll benders and a ring roller. I have some students come up with some great scroll work projects that don't cost an arm and a leg ($2-$10 for most small tables). Next year I'm going to be teaching in the bush of Alaska and would like to get a scroll bender for the school I'm teaching at.
Harbor freight has their bender for 89.99 and the scroll attachment for 29.99 they also have a ring roller for $69.99. The shop out fitters bender is over $1000 by the time you get everything and the roller is $550. Anyone have any experience with the harbor freight or another cheap bender and roller? The shop budget isn't much and there's no $$ for the real expensive roller and bender, I can probably get a grant for it 1 day but it isn't in the cards right now.

I don't know, I don't see the combination of High School Students and Harbor Freight Tools ending well... I'd be concerned that the bender was made with their usual silly putty steel, good for a half dozen bends and then it's tweaked beyond usage. That seems to be my luck with 90% of the stuff I've purchased there that's designed to pull, compress, or bend.

I'm a little worried about the quality. The harbor freight stuff looks like an exact copy of the made is usa stuff, though I'm sure cheaper steel. Is there a "mid grade" version out there? I think my classes will have 5-6 students in them which should help keep the use down. I only have $2000 for 6 shop classes so I need to keep costs down. Next year I'll apply for a grant once I have a better idea what tools are in the shop.

yea, i think Itsa just read that wrong.
Why not teach them traditional methods of using a hammer and anvil to make scrolls and stuff?
Its not that hard.
