Got a 84 s-10 and I can see dhow to get the starter out . The starter is unbolted and when pulled forward it hits the 4x4 A-arm.
One person said to take off the manifold...but that seems like a mess for a simple starter changeout??
Would appreciate any ideas..

On S-10s the starter comes out from underneath. Take off your skid plate, unbloth your brake line from the crossmember, take the 3 bolts out through the frame on each side, take the crossmember out, and you can take the starter down from there.
I did this once on my 84 S10 4x4. Take the starter and back it out towards the front of the truck, turn it like a 1/4 trun counter clockwise and tilt it up, then bring it back down and out past the crossmember while turning it clockwise about a 1/2 turn.
It sounds kinda odd but you don't need to unbolt shit if you twist it around right.
I hope I haven't offended the Chevy people by bringing my Toyota-driving self into your tech forum.:D I was looking for info on the GM 6.5 Turbo Diesel.
If I have, well, you know.......:flipoff2:
