I am getting ready to have my portal stub shafts machined down and an adapter ring welded on, so I get to choose the bolt pattern (all in preperation for my own disc conversion).
I want something that will be readily available off the shelf in a 16" diameter. The three patterns I'm toying with are:
5x5.5" - Can find 'em anywhere
6x5.5" - Again, easy to find
8x6.5 - My least favorite because of the number of lugs (I'm lazy like that).
Problem is, do you think going with the 5x5.5" would be strong enough?
Tires currently are 39.5"x16 Irok radials, with max size ever being possibly a 42" tire.
I like the idea of H1 beadlocks, but the 16.5" diameter kills that deal (has anyone ever heard of these being modified to run a 16" tire?).
Any input?

Toyota's, like Rovers, only they work.

It only looks like a real Rover if its got 5x6.5. But finding wheels is a bitch! I now a guy who has 39.5 iroks on a TJ with Dana 60s on 5x4.5s and he has broken everything except wheel lugs! 8 lugs are serious overkill.

I'm running 5 on 5.5 with spooled 60s and sticky Krawlers with no issues.

406YJ, here on PBB. This is the way to go, even if they are 16.5. He can do whatever bolt pattern you want, and with all of the toys and extras, they're still darned cheap. Also, BS is available in a number of offsets.

6 on 5.5. Imports and domestics both used them. It's really one of the only things that the toyota crowd hasn't reached the breaking point of.
I just sold my hmmwv wheels. They were 5 on 5.5 for my Scout. BFGoodrich just stopped making mud terrains for that rim size not too long ago. If you aren't ever driving it on the street, there are still some good tire choices for those rims. If you want a streetable tire, I believe the BFG All Terrain is the only thing left for them.

6x5.5 is probably easier to find any where in the world than any other truck rim.

Whatever the stock H1 wheels come with and run them as is (if the Backspacing is right)

ahh, come on Greg pigeon hole yourself like I did and go 5 on 6.5 with custom wheels and keep it real.

Well, even Cirbo had suggested the 6x5.5", so add in all of the votes here I guess that's what I'll go with.
Thanks for the input.
Oh, if you ever think you want to try and build your own headers - talk yourself out of it! I'm in tubing cutting hell right now.:mad3:
