Have any of you experienced a down side to flatfendering your jeep?

Also, can you post a pic of yours?.

Thanks,

The only downside could be the lack of options for fender flares which will allow your tires to throw more crap on the jeep

Heres a nice flatfenderjob we all did on GUI's fenders during my disfunctional weekend.

TJ fenders on a YJ GUI cut the flares., I did the sawzall work

You could still use just about any flare you wanted, you'd just have to cut them at the fender line you cut,and then blend them in with a grinder.

On the TJ's, the front fenders are double walled at the top. Leave a bit of a lip for strength. And expect a very dirty Jeep Go for it! http://www.cutter.rockcrawler.com/images/mine2.jpg

HEY CUTTER! Thought you went to Moab or something?
Here's mine with Xenon flares trimmed to match the fender.

Only downside is figuring out which lights to use for signals and side markers if you're keeping it streetable. As you saw, I used CJ light up front and (dunno if you could see) trailer marker lights on the side - 2" recessed with rubber grommet. Next is the taillights and rear side markers.

Good Luck

Here's a pic of mine... I ditched the front fenders with no hope of ever getting them back on... gave me more clearance that way... and yes, my jeep is ILLEGAL.. oh well.

Keeping it legal........

I took the flares off my YJ and I'm cutting them the next time I get my hands anywhere near a sawzall. For the front of mine I am just going to leave the little part where the turn signal mounts attached and trim up at like a 45* angle to where I'm cutting the top of the rest off. If you dont understand maybe I can post a pic or something to show you what I mean. Other than that I'm cutting pretty much as high as possible

Here is what my friend did with his TJ. And no, he's not afraid to wheel with them either.

Nice Green J, but too clean Hmmm It looks like a street Jeep, hehe! Here are some more TJ flatties pics, and a pic of my YJ flattened out "TOADSTYLE"

The only disadvantage is the street legal thing, but you can find out a place to put your markers. I am planning to put markers inside

Where are the pics of your YJ?

BTW - The TJ that you posted and the TJ that I posted play together all the time. They both just whacked the front fenders pretty well on a recent outing. The green ones held up pretty well with the paint just getting scuffed.

Where did the owner of the green TJ get those fenders? They look like Willys fenders to me. Anybody know?

here are some pics...it is not finished yet, but can give an idea of the YJ "RockToad" setup. I modestly think it came out awesome, and much better than the stock setup or aftermarket flares. I have not finished the cutting of the inner fender, and as soon as my hand gets better, I will finish it up (I got it sliced cutting the TJ flares

Cool! Have a great time! I'm headed to Gilmer with the TX4x4 group the 28th-30th. Then it's back work on installing the 14 bolt (SOA & disc's), D60 (with 8" coils), D300 (4:1 and twin stick), and bigger tires. Maybe I'll actually finish this thing one day!

for the front you can just put the cj signals under the headlights... :D of course cutting the hood for more clearance and some tube work would make it bash proof.... or should i dare say............. tin bender proof!
