32spline vs. 35spline is it worth the upgrade?

The Chevy 14 bolt has the same diameter axles, 1.5", only 30 (?) spline. Don't hear about a lot of broken axles with either. I wouldn't bother unless it becomes a problem.

Send a PM to mj - I think he found OEM 35-spline axle for his Dodge D70 fairly cheaply.

30-spline = 1.31"
32-spline = 1.41"
35-spline = 1.50" (14-bolt FF 30-spline is also 1.50")

I'd say upgrade now, cuz if you break an axle, you'll need axles AND and a new ARB. A 32-spline ARB will be hard to resell since it really only applies to Dodges.

Im running it in a Chevy .Only so I can run an ARB.

For the cost of axle shafts, you could probably land a Dodge Dana 80 hybrid (35-spline, and D70 locker can be made to fit - larger ring gear bolts, but otherwise same diff case).

Or get a 97-up E350 Dana 60 (35-spline and factory discs)

My 2 cents.

Unless your 70 is very odd 35 spline axles should be available off the shelf at a resonable cost, Any spicer distributor should be able to cross refrence that for you. If this was my rear I would up grade, but I'm a little harder on parts than most, but I have never broken a 14 bolt axle, wore the spines out but never broke one. PM me if you need the number to a place that can get these axles for you.

HAH! I've broken 3 14 bolt shafts this year. Bigger is better.

mr4wd do you have any pics of the broken shafts?

No, I don't have pictures of anything I broke this year, except for this driveshaft.

2 1/2" .188 tubing, brand new 1350 joint on diff end, 1480 on t-case end...(30 spline stubs held up this time, broken 5 this year)

I broke 2 shafts at the flange where it's broached to the shaft. I warped one some how or another and broke all 8 of the 1/2" bolts that connect it to the hub. The shaft was a pain in the nuts to get out... It was shaped like a U (not that bad, but close) and bound up when I tried to slide it out of the spindle...

Listen Brook, just because your body flaked out on you doesn't mean mine will :)

However, I'm thinking of building a sort of flat bed and cutting the roof off to air out the interior :) Caging it and putting a set of half-decent seats in it... I checked the change droor, and I don't think I'll be able to afford a jeep this winter with school and all.
