: Fuse keeps blowing; 30amp at starter

I replaced the two fusible links at the starter with 3 inline fuse holders. Each has an 30amp fuse. The 12awg wire that goes from the starter to the small OEM distribution block on the firewall keeps blowing. I traced the wire all the way and do not see any breaks or cuts that could cause a short. Is an 30amp fuse just not high enough for this wire? Can I just bypass the entire fuse and hardwire direct or is that asking for trouble?

you might have a short some where it might be in your solenoid or something after the distribution block . also the fusible links can handle a small spike. where the inline 30 amp fuse if it gets a mila amp over the 30 amp it will blow. i tried the inline fuses on my truck went threw about 5 or 6 on one trail run. i would go to the parts store spend the 2 or 3 bucks and put the fusible link back in it. i did. haven't had a problem seance

Do NOT bypass the entire fuse, how old is the wire? Check your battery while cranking also.

Found the problem! Another wire from the distribution block to the alternator was causing the short.

Do I even need this wire? My alt gets 12v from the starter and well ground goes to chassis. I pulled the wire out and no signs of copper comming thru for a short. Could the alt. be causing the short? Its brand new but the cheapy Kragen brand new.

i would replace the wire it will run with out it but will not charge the batt. it might be something in side the alt something might be grounding out or bad i would pull it off and have it checked it might be new but i have had new ones that are bad of the git go . i went down to auto zone and got the life time warranty one haven't had a problem.
