I'VE BEEN PONDERING THIS FOR A BIT AND WANT YOUR OPINIONS. I THINK I MAY TRY TO FILL ANY POCKETS IN THE BODY [IE THE POCKET IN THE PANELS ABOVE THE ROCKERS, ECT] WITH THE INSULATING FOAM IN A CAN YOU CAN BUY AT HOME DEPOT. THE MAIN IDEA IS TO SEAL THESE AREAS ON THE INSIDE WHERE I CANT GET PAINT, AND TO STOP ANYTHING FROM GETTING IN THERE AND RATTLING.

SO DO YOU THINK THIS COULD WORK> AND SEAL THE INSIDE, OR DO YOU THINK IT IS GOING TO HOLD ANY WATER THAT GETS IN THERE IN LONGER? [CAPILARY ACTION AT THE EDGES, ECT]

ALSO, IF ANYONE HAS ANY NOISE REDUCTION METHODS I WOULD APRECIATE IT, I'M THINKING IM GONNA SPRAY SOME RUBBER UNDERCOAT UNDER MOST OF THE TUB AND HERCULINER THE TOP SIDE SOMEWHERE DOWN THE ROAD.

THANKS

I would try it out on some scrap mock up of the panel you want to seal and see if it distorts the metal, then submerge it in water and see how long it takes to dry out . I wouldnt just go and do this as a wild ass idea then regret it. It does seem like a pretty good thought though.
If you decide to do the foam, wear a long sleeve shirt and gloves unless you are hairless. I looked like I had the mainge after using the stuff and ripping the hair off my arms trying to remove what got on me. :crybaby2:

Do NOT do this. This foam can be caustic and corrosive, it can actually strip paint and rust will form shortly after. But at the least, you are correct, it wicks moisture into the panel and rots it out very quickly.

For soundproofing, you want something really dense, like that Dynamat stuff they sell in the stereo shops. You can also use roofing sealant, they sometimes call it ice shield. It's very similar to Dynamat but costs a LOT less.

I had a Baja bug years ago that the po had done it to, it had major rust issue's because of it.

I say dont do it!!

The PO did it to my pig inside the rockers and it seems to have sped up the rust process. The sound proofing in mine is silver heat reflective insulation that looks like bubble wrap. It is used as a radiant barrier in walls and roofs of houses. It is just laid under the carpet and is also under the floor in the transmission tunnel. Works great.
