Help with D44 HP BOM (603689). I want to identify so I can get part numbers for the bearings, seals, etc.
And why is it not on the list????
This axle is a bare housing only, no outers, no carrier, no pinion, etc.
Yes I have searched! A ton. I still have not found this axle in the Spicer BOM lists.
I have a copy of Spicer x510-8dsd and it is not in there. I have copies of other
Spicer axle identification documents and it is not listed. The dana search site
gives me nothing.
What I know:
BOM 1 15 6A 5 603689 9
D44 HP with 447F casting
welded on wedges
Tube OD 2.75
Tube ID 1.75
What I think:
Assembled Jan 15 1976 for a F150
Kingpin outers - I have read that these are not desirable but I do not understand why
I will be cutting off the C's when I narrow it so the kingpin outers might not be a problem for me.

Kingpin? If it's a coil sprung kingpin it's pre-'72. Post up some pics.

Mr N's site is a wealth of knowlege. In the light of day I see that the Cs on my axle are ball joint type not kingpin.
I think that there is little doubt that the axle is a 1976. The BOM fits the sequence of other 1976 Ford D44s and the 6 in 1 15 6A 5 means 1976 according to the Spicer ID doc.
Didn't think I needed pics of welded wedges or an empty housing. When I start chopping it up I will take a few.

Ahhh....you have a good housing then, the best in my opinion. Thick tubes, weld on wedges and solid trac bar mount.
Sounds like you have the year nailed down so parts should be easy to source now.:D
Don't know what your eventual use is but it's usually neccessary to cut only the long passenger tube to narrow it unless you want to turn both Cs for caster.

I don't like to guess and the BOM not being listed still bothers me.
Are Ford BOMs not listed a common occurance?
Anyone have a comment on this?
