Ive seen some people use part WP85, for a CJ7 w/padded dash and softop, in YJ's. Looks like it goes pretty high up and would interfere with a YJ hardtop. But I like how it hugs the dash, lots of room. Anyone have the WP84 which is for CJ7 hardtop, with or without padded dash? Cant get a pic and smittybuilt wont return emails. Any idea if this has the same shape as the WP85? Thanks

I run the WP84 in my YJ. It does have the bend for the padded dash. I ordered it as a hardtop, non-padded dash kit.

You can cut the legs down to clear the hardtop. I cut mine a couple inches, but I probably should have cut it 1 inch less than I did.

I can't recommend the product enough though. It's a decent product for the money.

You'd have to see pics of Charly's cage to appreciate it. Even tho the bar bows away fom the dash, there is still plenty of room to get in and out and move around. (And I'm none too svelte)

Plus, the way iit is designed it doesn't interrfere wiith a lot of things that usually they do, i.e. the windshield retaining bolts, so you can still put the windshield down, and you coul still get the dash off without pulling the whole cage.

We need pics!

And I really didn't want to, but here's a link to a similar set up.

Considering that the YJ and CJ body tubs are nearly identicle. You shouldn't have any issues. ;)

I think*/thought the only difference between the hard-top vs
softtop versions were the tube diameter... 1.75" for hardtop,
and 2.0" for softtop..... but, really, you can mix either one. just
might have to trim the bottom of the down-bars just a tad.
I put a 2.0" smitty front hoop in an 86 cj w/padded dash which
almost always runs a softop in the summer, and a hardtop in
the winter............. works both ways.

Yeah, mine is 1.75 x .120. Smitty's site said it would be 2", but it looks like that might cause a bit more of a problem with the hard doors. My doors just barely fit, in fact my driver's door panel hits the tube, haven't tried the pass. door yet, but by measurements my cage is over to the driver's side an 1/8th of an inch.

My hardtop, non padded dash kit (WP84) definitely has the bend though.
