It has come to my attention that a TLCA club called the Gotham City Landcruisers is putting an REI link on their website. I contacted them about this and they have refused to pull the REI link. GCLC earns money everytime someone uses that link to buy something on the REI site.

REI sponsers many environment groups. Some are worthwhile of support but two come to mind that are not.

The California Wilderness Coalition actively pursues the closing of public lands in California and converting them to Wildness areas off limits to multiple-use.

The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance also does the same thing but works in Utah. It is best known for its effort for more wilderness area in Moab.

Here are two important club members of GCLC that you can email to voice your opinion in support of GCLC or against...Please let them know how you think about the REI issue...

I have been asked by GCLC to clarify their "refusal"...

They say they don't actually refuse to remove it but want to bring it to discussion with their own club members. This does make sense but it was easy enough to put the link up, they could atleast pull the link until their club votes on it.

I was TLCA Member for years but didnt renew this years membership.......TLCA doesnt do a good job in the communication area.

<font color="yellow">being an officer in the Axle Snappers since it was started, I know how hard it is to get everyone together to vote. I also know that depending on how their by-laws are written, they may or may not be able to do anything "on behalf" of the club without a majority vote. They (presumably) have already voted to put up the link, so now they need another vote to remove it...

I would ask that we try to work together with them to point out the fact that REI supports commercialization of the National Forest System, and proudly supports the CWC, which is working so hard to close Oceano Dunes (along with the rest of the country) to the public - a place where a great # of TLCA members spend their holidays with their families and friends wheeling around the dunes...I'm sure once GCLC (and TLCA) does their homework, they will remove it...

Until they vote, I don't think burying them with e-mails will do anything but take time away from them that could be use to do more productive things, such as fighting land closures...
