FOGRay

Friends of Giant Rock poker run last weekend was a huge success. Prez- Chris Miller gave a not to short speech about FOGR objectives and poker run rules, and I use the word rules with tongue in cheek. Mark Howlett from Partnership for Johnson Valley gave a somewhat briefer update on Military Expansion-Mother Roads Monument proposal by Feinstein and CWC California Wilderness Coalition proposal of 11 additional land grabs. (More info on PFJV.org) Catching organizers by surprise, 92 gamblers took to the trails with family and friends in tow. Using the hard trail-easy trail system a few skeptical challengers had to swallow hard and sneak around to the next check point. The final stop at Emerson Dry Lake yielded a BBQ complements of FOGR, R&R for all, drag races for those that didn’t get enough and best of all meeting new people making new friends. Winners; high hand with full house 9’s over went to Jason Pessa low hand with an 8 went to Michael Hawkins. Check the FOGR website for full results and some flicks. In the 100 yard dash Rex Hamilton and his VW rail hurt some feeling blowing off subaru’s, turbo fords and Chevy V6;s alike. Best looking Jeep was George’s CJ5 (my opinion) All the Rino’s stayed upright, one quad tipped over (I think he did it on purpose) bike’s fell over all day long, one full size truck got stuck and it took three buggies and Matt’s Toyota to jerk him out. Thanks goes out to MaryJo and Stacie for managing the game and to Ben and company for hauling out the tables and BBQ. All in all it was great fun and I’m looking forward to the next one.
