: Weekend Report May 30/31 2009
MochaMike 06-01-2009, 10:34 AM Post up your wheeling pix...
I supposed to wheel, but I discovered some engine problems last week (either rings or valves)...... Link (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=789124&highlight=)
Instead, yesterday I took the Ethan (5) to the Motorcycle Drags at Sacto Speedway... A friends father is involved with a team that races Harleys.

He won this heat, but got 2nd in the final race because his clutch handle broke.

A cool V-max we found in another pit (not racing).
It had a blower & Edelbrock 4BL carb on it...

uglyscout 06-01-2009, 10:46 AM Went to the beach with some Scouts. Drove around until the other two guys broke enough stuff to head back to the trailers.
Good times -- awesome weather. Saw some SICK sand rails/buggies. I'm glad I don't have an extra 45K or I would need a 4 seat LS powered sand buggy.

tsm1mt 06-01-2009, 10:54 AM No wheeling - again - but I'm getting closer:
http://www.tmcom.com/~tsm1/gallery2/d/51092-2/05-31-09_2305.jpg
I've completely missed the winter snow wheeling season.. I'm about to pull the passenger door back off and put the door bar back on, now that I've straightened the A pillar and spent too many hours trying to adjust the door, the a-pillar, and latch so it would close again.
Took the doors off in July and haven't been wheelin' since. :(
Rear diff cover is back on, and almost have the rear disc on one side out of the way.
Meanwhile, I poked around my new Travelall some. Still haven't taken it for a spin yet - the original GB might be friend, and/or that lovely Holley 2210 is acting like a 2210..

On the plus side, complete AC system, 345, auto, NP205, D44/D60 combo, 3.73, LS, unbroken windshield, wipers work, rear window works, has a floor on the driver's side, both fuel tanks..
sprout4two 06-01-2009, 11:09 AM Wheeled. No Pics. Mechanos rode in the b-seat. Had a pretty good time up till the highlift handle got away and smacked me in the jaw. :homer:
Then my stupid spotter forgot to tell me about a big rock and smashed the oil pan and donated 5qts of oil to the outside of my vehicle. Some plastic steel and 30 mins later we were back on the trail. Time for a skid on the oil pan.
Korllach 06-01-2009, 11:32 AM Got the heavy ass bitch that is the NP205 back up under the scout and bolted in place ater having new bearings and seals put in it. drove it around a bit to make sure it was working well.
worked out pretty good but I think the PO got the pinion angle in the ass end jacked up so still having some grinding up by the Tcase when i am moving at a decent clip (over 35mph) and let off the throttle. As soon as i get back on the throttle the grind goes away and the scout still is really bumpy at low speeds. smoothes out at high speeds though. Will probably pull the top off next weekend for summer since we are supposed to have thunder storms all week.
Worked my ass off this weekend. Had to finish the Suburban A/C evaporator change out. Had to but the service manual DVD as it gets in there deep.
UPS delivered my brothers bumper. He tore the front bumper off Friday night, so we could start first thing Sat. Get it all mocked up and tack into place. Spent several hours TIG welding it together.

Was tired as hell, but since it was cool out, pulled the tranny and transfer case out of the Scout.
In preparation of a new tranny and transfer case.
Mechanos 06-01-2009, 12:11 PM I wheeled.....
.... in addition to riding bitch, I actually got to wheel a little bit thanks to sprout giving me some seat time behind the wheel of his 800A. As for not pointing out the oil pan violating rock.... I didn't think sprout needed me to point out volkswagon sized boulders on virtually level ground. Guess I was wrong...
First pic: sprout playing around on some stair steps.
Next pics are of fuggly trying to flop it over by back up onto to large rock simultaneously lifting the pass rear and pass front axles up onto the rocks... all of this on a decent uphill grade. The pics don't do the situation justices, as usual, but fuggly's eyes got pretty big as part of his seat disappeared....looked like he was going to go over for a second or two.
scout254 06-01-2009, 01:33 PM Rode with a friend to pick up a Chevy dually 60 and matching 14 bolt ! :homer:
The ride was very interesting in the hills..... Previous owner removed the axles from the truck, but left the tires on it... and we had no tools! :flipoff2:

Blind Driver 06-01-2009, 01:52 PM There is going to be a car show at the Bass Pro Shop locally Saturday. My damn wheels had better make it by then. They'll need to be painted. Not to mention the reamer for my steering arms still hasn't showed up :mad3:
Without the H1s and the reamer, I can't do much on the truck. I need the wheels to decide where I finally want my rear shocks. They'll probably be outside the frame, but I'm still not sure. I need the reamer so fit the tie-rod, then I need to modify the exhaust to clear the tie-rod. I'll probably just make a 2 into 1 exhaust myself.
My front shocks started leaking. At least now I have an excuse to buy more blingin' front shocks.:shaking:
Edit..
My front shocks started leaking. At least now I have an excuse to buy more blingin' front shocks.:shaking:
You just missed the Rancho shock sale buy one get one 1/2 off :(
Last day was yesterday. I pull the trigger for two new front shocks. Amazon had the best prices and free shipping to boot.
Urban Wheeler 06-01-2009, 03:49 PM I work every other weekend, and last weekend I worked. Wasn't bad until sunday, I was a busy fuckin bee that day. Started to cool off, until I got called to the mixer.
http://www.imakenews.com/getoshiba_mve-news/getoshiba_mve-news_e_a000134931.JPG
This is the first step in tire production, mixing raw rubber, synthetic rubber, and whatever else they put in rubber. Turns out the hopper came loose fronm the mixer body and was moving around. I couldn't do much as I didn't have and couldn't find a 7/8 allen wrench to fit the socket heads.
I have monday and tues day off, and I am using the time to finish my welder project. With my ebay switch (came from a Hobart) I set it up so I can stick weld with DC+, DC-, AC, and tig with AC or DC-. Right now I have enough done so I can stick again, a little more and I can tig.
uglyscout 06-01-2009, 04:01 PM I I couldn't do much as I didn't have and couldn't find a 7/8 allen wrench to fit the socket heads.

Someone probably stole it to remove D60 kingpins :flipoff2:
ChiScouter 06-01-2009, 04:42 PM Im back in the work saddle. My mom is sufficently recovered from her string of surgeries to be able to drive just as work is picking back up. Last work was a couple of days on a nightmare on elm sequal, and sorry for fans of The Beast, but this week I am destroying all the sets and tossing them in a dumpster. As usual didn't touch the Scout
Binder 06-01-2009, 05:45 PM I didn't wheel but I do have this bitchin new driveway to park my truck and trailer.:smokin:
Grounhog rock crawl is comming up in two weeks.:D

235frog 06-01-2009, 06:02 PM Swapped rear leaf springs and wheeled.
war pony 06-01-2009, 06:15 PM Road dog with rockthedog, went up to Loon lake and we went in to the box. Had about nine trucks, lots of fun. Only little carnage, both inner and both outer axles on a 44. A ring & pinion and a spring plate. Three different rigs . All & All great time.
crashhawk 06-01-2009, 06:28 PM Replaced the water pump on my 04 CTD. Surprisingly easy. :smokin:
Spent the rest of the weekend packing things that are currently not in use around my house for the move next month.:D

theycallmefudd 06-01-2009, 07:13 PM No scout shit for me..... again..... Finished up my inventory on Sat after work.. Sun we went to the big city (SLC) hit the costco and few other places blowing money on shit we didn't and that I didn't want. then did a shit load of block sanding the wifes (my) ford, rotated + balanced and changed the oil and replaced the licence plate bulbs (what a bitch) in her lincoln while she stood around thinking about what kind of wheels she wants on it and wanting me to hurry up so I could go home and weed-eat and mow the lawn before it started raining..... awsome weekend those of you who wheeled- really missed out!

Replaced the cam position sensor on my '01 CTD tonight.... unbelievable fucking bitch of a job. Took me 3 hours to unplug one electrical connector, remove one screw, remove the sensor and reverse the process for the install. :shaking: I really really want to kick someone in the nuts for putting it where they did.
uglyscout 06-01-2009, 08:42 PM I guess my weekend is not over!

Tom,
Can you post up the part number of what you ended up using? Did you have to mess with it to get it to work?
I had leave I had to burn before the end of the month, so I took today off and started my weekend early. I spent a few hours over at the parents house getting some numbers for someone who is interested in buying the engine out of the crawler. If all goes well, I'll get rid of the engine and the frame body and chassis. And there is a big possibility of the rest ending up in my turbo diesel, with an FI 392 to replace the blown TD. Yes, i am finally going down that road, so keep your fingers crossed. If it all works out, then Ugly can wheel with 3 scouts that break shit next summber! LOL:flipoff2:
RustoleumWhite 06-01-2009, 09:59 PM I wheeled, well I guess you could call it that.
I drove 15-minutes from my house rather than the more typical 60-90 minutes to go flog on my blue truck with about 90+ other folks.
Ended up with some killer shoulder belt rash, a nice base tan, a very dirty truck, bent tie-rod and a new dent in the drivers side “B” Pillar.....
O-ya, and they gave me THIS (http://tigger.tmcom.com/~marka/PhotoAlbums/core4x453009/DSC_0124.sized.jpg). Close Up (http://tigger.tmcom.com/~marka/PhotoAlbums/core4x453009/DSC_0125.sized.jpg).

No....Why?

Yep, try the same thing with an add on hydraulic pump. BLOWS!!! Had a to do it on a service truck a year or so ago. I feel your pain.
Blind Driver 06-03-2009, 04:49 PM No....Why?
Just curious :homer:
Urban Wheeler 06-03-2009, 05:21 PM Worked on my welder some. I can do stick in ac, dcen and dcep, but I have a little more to do before I can tig again.

crashhawk 06-03-2009, 06:58 PM Very few things in this world scare me as bad as electricity.
Binderman 06-03-2009, 08:09 PM Meanwhile, I poked around my new Travelall some. Still haven't taken it for a spin yet - the original GB might be friend, and/or that lovely Holley 2210 is acting like a 2210..

Nice rig. I want to work on mine more than I do my 800. The clean windshield is a plus as I was unable to locate one for mine a year ago. A passenger side front tank is a rare piece also when ya need one.
If ya ever tear the rear window motor out and tear into it document how its assembled as mine works fine one way then loads the worm shaft up so hard it doesnt have the power to get it back up.:( I feel its missing something, but can't find a break down on it or a person willing to tear into theirs.
Binderman 06-03-2009, 08:30 PM Spent all weekend cleaning up the lot I bought behind my house. Its been a two year process. It was a FOREST when purchased. Cut down the tree's last year and just a few weeks ago the city finally chipped it all. Next problem was they decided they didnt have the man power to haul the chips off in anytime soon.:mad3:
So I borrowed a loader tractor and loaded probly 20 yards of chips on my 51 L180 dump truck and drove it 20 miles to our farm to dump them on my food plots. Very humbling drive!! FYI, wood chips don't load for squat!! I chased those piles all over the property.
Spent sunday grubbing trees/stumps that I didnt get last summer and burning the wood/trash that was piled up waiting for the burn ban to be lifted. I can just about mow it all now no problem!! Yippee..........
Kids have a place now for baseball, go carts or whatever.
No scout work!!:D
