: So is a Sigma really that bad?

So other than a lot of internet lore and a trigger pull only Jerry Miculek would love, is the Sigma a worthwhile purchase. If it matters I am looking at a 40VE.

the trigger pull does suck balls.. Spend the littleextra and pickup a glock on top glock..

If you just want cheap that goes bang then they seem to be dependable

I like mine.. I haven't tried Doc's trigger improvement/ spring removal. Guess i just got used to the trigger.

I shot both of Seabass44's sigma's plus my another friends of mine.. Bot of Seabass44's still pulled extremely hard even after the one spring was taken off.. You can get used to it I guess but it felt like it was about 15lbs of creepy pull..

My friend had one in 9mil that was a jammin SOB. Certainly not a weapon to carry or depend on in my opinion.

ok, I will stop the "friend of a buddy of my sisters boyfriend" stuff right here

MY 1st gen S&W Sigma 9mm has had in excess of 5k through it at the minimum (I don't keep tabs on such things but I know at least that much)
Zero FTF/FTE, Zero jams, zero issues. WWB/wolf/milsurp/JHP/cast lead/whatever.
Other than the trigger being unfucked I replaced the recoil spring last year (preventive maintenance) and replaced the plastic spring guide with a shortened stainless one for a glock.

I don't own crap, I don't tout crap.

But I do own the most hated gun on the internet

I'm glad you are happy with your Sigma and confidence in a weapon is important. Of all the people who own a Sigma what do you think the percentage of "satisfied" owners is?
I was tempted to get one just because the price is terrific but after doing some reasearch, talking to Sigma owners and shooting several I chose to go with a different weapon.

of those who have fixed the trigger or those that have not?

To be honest most of the people I have ever seen talk shit about them have never shot one much less seen one in person. Those are the same people who post "reviews" on internet forums
Those that have fixed the trigger I have to say a 80-90% keeper rate.
The rest selling them for something different entirely.

For the money and some hands on time there is very few in the market close.

First off I am a Glock fan.

A friend of mine got the Sigma 40 in a trade. He let me shoot it and I hated it. I then did Docs trigger job on it and it was a much better pistol. If I were in the market for a handgun I would definately consider one. The money you save will almost buy you your first thousand rounds of ammo.

My first pistol was the 40ve(second gen sigma). The ergonomics on the pistol are great, never had any issues with the gun. I have run numerous factory loads through it as well as handloads, both hot and light.
The trigger is long and heavy. I did the trigger mod and it helped, but ended up returning it to stock.

If you want to learn trigger control then this gun will definately help you. It is identical in size to the glock 23, with better ergo's.

I think its a great gun, especially for the price.

I like mine. Like it even more after Doc's trigger mod. And with a little practice you can learn to shoot them. 10 of 14 in the red @ 25ft.

My Sigma (9mm) has been great. My wife and I have shot roughly 2000 rounds with no problems - none, nada. I have not done the mods and haven't really felt the need to. I picked up a M&P 9mm since I bought the Sigma and I like it better in a lot of ways, but my wife still likes the Sigma so I'll keep it. I think its a great gun for the money.

Heaven presents itself in different forms for different people. :flipoff2:

But seriously if the OP gets a sigma, do the trigger fix. Out of the box it makes a glock trigger feel refined.

Happy, owner here. I have the SW9VE (2nd gen) and have done the trigger mod.

Just as Doc said, no BS, I have a couple thousand through mine and ZERO issues at all!

Very reliable, hi-cap, comfy, etc etc. It's just to big to CC, that's the only thing I don't like about it.

It's the worst firearm I've ever fired. And yes, I shot one in person, it's not a "friend of a friend" anecdote. The trigger felt like I'd break the damn thing off before it fired. I was embarassed for the friend of mine who owned the horrible thing. I haven't shot a "post Doc mod" version, but I don't think I'd waste my time doing the mod unless I got it free.

Ummm, Let me guess. We're not supposed to "like" the trigger on a DAO. Right?

Sorry, but if I don't like it, then I don't like it. Sorry if that stings your backside.

So I'll keep it if anyone wants to sell one you don't want I'll buy it for $150

The sigma, glock, and damn near every other striker fired pistol out there is NOT a double action pistol.

Try an M&P Pro some time. Lemme know what you think.

And yes, according to the ATF, a Glock or similar striker-fired mechanism is double action. :p

And every shoe that I own is potentially an unregistered machine gun, but that still doesn't make an atf agent worth a damn when it comes to firearms technology.

Well I went tonight to pick one up, but the shop was out. Fondled a 9mm for a bit, ended up walking out with a XD40. I dry fired that 9mm a couple of times and was surprised at the trigger pull. Yes it is long and a bit stiff, but no worse than a lot of the wheel guns I have shot. I would have walked out with the Sigma if they had a 40 in stock. It would have went well with my not so loved by the internet shotgun (Defender).

I bought my girlfriend a SW9VE for her 21st birthday and I like it just fine. I did the spring removal mod before ever actually firing it. We've only put ~500 rounds through it but have had no malfunctions whatsoever and it is suprisingly accurate. She likes my Beretta more but I wanted to get her a gat to keep at her apartment and sure as shit wasnt going to spend $600 on something she would only shoot twice a year. The Sigma fit the budget and application perfectly and gets a +1 from me.
