Ok guys, if you could start from scratch...how do you think the perfect frame should be built? i.e. the width of the frame, what box tubing to use, how long of a frame? i plan on rockwells with 44s and a long wheelbase(about 105-125)...any advice or pics would be appreciated...

if you're going the distance on this rig , go buy 2 20' sticks of
2 x 3 box and build your basic frame from there:D

Thick tube! I would go with .188 wall DOM tube, just to be safe... It will be heavy, but not too bad. If you want to spend a little extra $$$ even go with 4130 DOM -- you could use .125 wall DOM, and it would be stronger than .188 wall 1010 DOM. Good Luck!!

I built the main frame on my Jeep out of 2x4x3/16. Most Jeep frames are 1/8" but I only lost about 40lbs by using 3/16. My frame is rectangular box tubing back to the main hoop of the rollcage and then tube from there back. My frame is about 36" from outside to outside, I used a width so I could use off the shelf swaybars.

Mine goes straight back the whole way, no bends in and out like stock frames.

very nice lagos...question about your rockwells...did you narrow them?...what are you doing for brakes?...is the front offset or centered?(in the pic it looks offset)?...thnx for hte input...i really like the frame

I used pinion brakes, unnarrowed rockwells(hubs flipped in though) and the front diff is offset to the driver's side.

My rear rockwell is a steering axle with the diff spun in the housing so it is centered output.
