Where to start...................

A big part of the FUN in competing is the many friendships made amongst the competitors, spectators, and the Trailkeepers (judges, volunteers and supporting cast), and really friendly people in and around Jellico! But coming back to work Monday morning and seeing the comments here, from people I have never met in person, is the icing on this cake!

I gotta give a big thanks to a few people, then I'll get to the details: First my wife and my daughters (Nikki, Anna & Abby) for putting up with my addiction! My friends at Badlands that have helped with the modifications, but more importantly taught me to wheel! I can't say it enough times, seat time is the key, and with these guys letting me tag along the last couple of years has given me the abilitry and confidence to be competitive! But, most important at the events is the spotter! I have had three different spotters this year, and all of them worked their butts off, Thanks Kenny( Kford), Rob (Badassjeepguy) and Kevin (Bigdude), I know with out you guys none of this happens.

I worked pretty hard to get ready for the finals, with the help of Rob Brown at Badlands (fab shop) we ripped the front suspenion and steering off with less than a week to go. Moving the spring hangers forward, boxing in the front of the frame and hanging 44044's up there. He had cut and turned the axle housing months ago, and we assembled it all with the All Pro hysteer arms, and he whipped a long travel front drivline with .25 tubing. This made a huge difference, the flex was much better, but the clearance at the lowest point (spring eyes) is now almost 25" with 35" tires.

Once there the key was to be calm, and take it easy on parts. Bigdude puts in the work, he knows how to place the rocks, and BIG ass rocks at that. We had a good day runing the first 5 obstacles Saturday with 23pts. The last of the day was a new one called Robert's Revenge and it was gnarly. When we got to it an unlimited was hung in the course with broken parts. Fortunatley there are a couple of gates used for the unlimited the legends didn't have to run, these are bonus gates (-6pts). On this obstacle I had a hell of time getting on it, pulled cable (15 pts) to make a huge step then proceeded across the top ridge which bypassed the bonus gates. Wit Bigdude in front coaxing me forward into a big drop to the left side I eased down (left side only) and began to roll over. I goosed the skinny pedal and rode it off the ledge (10 ft down to the left side) and did a 360 deg roll back onto the wheels, then proceeded to drive out the exit gate! The best part is I rolled right thru the bonus gates (-6 pts) and continued. The Cruiser took a hard hit to the hood area and tweaked the radiator support, which in turn sheared all the blades off the fan. It dripped some fluid and after opening the hood, the leak was the overflow tube that had been cut.

Day 2 with 1 pt between myself (in second) and Mike Cole (snoborder) started pretty good, we did the bonus gates and got a negative score on the first obstacle, and eased through the next one with only a few backs. Third obstacle of the day was a hill climb and a 180 turn at the top and back down which btw is a lot harder now with 98" of wheelbase! We took a few backs to get around it, but did a ride along so we ended up negative again. 4th obstacle, the easist in my opinion we used our other ride along and left it negative as well. At this point I think we had a 4 for the day. The 5th obstacle (pictured above in this thread) got us, we just couldn't get the skid plate over a big ass rock, we were tired and the risk of rolling again (and costing more points) kept me from doing the right thing (getting it?) to get over. At this point we had to be smart, so we tried to get out with out damage and timed out, ouch our only 40! Stacey Walker in Chris Durhams old rig had just rolled off this obstacle and time out as well. He was our comp for the series championship. The last obstacle is called Hardcore, and it eats parts! We took a few backs and stops but got outta there with a solid lead, winning the event by 11 pts, which sealed the Championship also.

Oh, the best part, NO broken driveline parts! The radiator took a beating in the roll and the mountins where busted off so wee stuffed towels in between the support and the radiator to keep it in position, the stub of the fan cut the radiator on day two and we plugged it up with radiator/tank sealer, several tubes of it and at least 150 packets of black pepper. It eventually stopped leaking and never overheated finishing the day.

That's it, I expect more pics to start appearing soon, and SOJA who got the roll from a good perspective on tape is supposed to post here as soon as he gets a chance.

I do need some parts if any of you can help out, a HOOD or 2! I have trashed 3 this year damnit! Any year with no rust would be great.

I gotta get some work done, see ya all later,

Congrats man, sweet job.

I wish I could have seen that roll. There was too much action there to catch everything. I heard the story passing through the crowd, glad no one was hurt and you finished the hill.

I am running Longs and stock inners. I previously broke a pair of Chromoly inners I had custom made to the tune of $400 USD. After trimming some weight, and (this is big) having a rock heaving young studly madman (Spotter of course, BigDude) working the course, we didn't break any drivetrain parts at all! The last weigh in was at 3400 lbs, this is all prepped for comp and full of fuel (10 gals).
