So, a buddy of my dad's found large pistol primers, but he's not a reloader, so he didn't know the difference between magnum primers and regular LP.
OK to use the magnum primers in .45 ACP cases if we take a bit of powder out?
Dad doesn't reload to max anyway, so I didn't think it would be a problem. Perhaps we'll even take out another half grain of powder or so.
What say the PBB?
Safe or hand grenade?
Or if someone wants the magnum primers and has LP primers we can certainly work something out. He's got 2K of these magnum primers.

Local guy had to buy some, because they were all he could find. They were small pistols for .40 loads, I think.

He went back down to minimum and worked his way up. Ended up about .3 grains lighter than with std. primers. But that exact charge reduction will change with case volume, and powder burn rate. I'd start over at minimum and work up again.

That's what I figured. We'll load a couple up and see if they cycle the action at minimum load.

I read that the difference between the regular and magnum is that the magnum is hotter and designed to burn more/slower powder.
Apparently using it with regular powder loads can cause peak pressure to go up, but not too significantly. Since he was already at the lower load level I don't think it will be a big deal. These are just target loads, so they're loaded light anyway.
