I found this on RC's website, it's a shot of Teraflex's booth at the Sema show.

What is the black crossmember lookin' piece?

I'm not a TJ guy, but my bet is that it's a bolt-on shock mount, for relocating the upper mounts.

Nope. The upper shock mount is the primer colored stamped metal piece that the black "thing" is sitting on. You can see the top of the shocks behind the piece in question.

Looks like they just set it there. That's from last year's SEMA booth right?

I think he's right, notice how its not really centered anyway? think its just set there, still don't know what it is though

I believe it's from this year's SEMA show ... going on right now?

You're right, it doesn't look to be centered, so it may just be resting there, whatever it is.

That is a beating stick, used to replace the popular "billy club" carried by renta-cops.

My guess is that the renta-cop laid it down on the display while he grabbed some food <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> .

Possibly to reduce frame flex?

Ok... maybe it's a support for the frame for the show.

Look at how the sign telling you the drive shaft is a CV style is oriented. Looks like the frame is up on it's side. Maybe that thing is just keeping the frame up like that.

Or maybe it's a doohickey.

Further inspection of other pictures on RC (way to go Mike) I would say itr is a aock mount as stated earlier. Why off set of center I don't know? Could be an optical illusion! Check back right corner of this pick. It appears the shock is attached to the bar in question. http://rockcrawler.com/trailreports/sema2001/tuesday/DSCN1808.jpg

Also check this. Is this a new lower shock mount for a TJ rear next to this disk brake set up? http://rockcrawler.com/trailreports/sema2001/tuesday/DSCN1811.jpg

Check the top picture again - you can clearly see the shock mounts behind the body pucks (stock)

Im no TJ guy, but in the middle pic it appears the rear track bar may attach to the underside of the piece in question. Is it to reinforce the Track bar?
I have no clue, just throwing out ideas here <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

The last pic just looks like their regular shock relocators, unless they've redesigned them.

But what's up with the Tera 50???

I know of the 60's, but 50 <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

The only place I've heard of the 50 is on Fullsize front axles.... Doesn't ford use the 50 on 250s or something? It's got the same 30 spline axles as a 44, but the actual shaft is bigger (like it necks down at the diff or something retarded)? Don't know about the ujoints...

Whatever it is, it doesn't go there. It would interfer with the body if mounted like it is in the picture. (Notice how it sticks up above the body puck?)

Personally, I think it is part of the display framework. Possibly something that was just set down there to be put out of the way.

The 50 is new its going to be a lighter weight alternative to the 60. They just finished casting it last week or so. It uses 60 u-joints.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh delicious. This is exactly what I have been looking for - something with the weight and profile of a 44 front, but a 60 size u-joint. Even if the shafts are the same as a 44, no sweat..

What vehicles run this as a drivers drop HP? <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Also, what are the carrier issues? Can you run a standard D44 carrier? I always thought these were Junk, probably mostly because they were part of that dumb TTB design (which in reality was a great concept for a smoother ride, but I digress). Is the Tera one going to be completely non standard, or what?

Is teraflex gonna be makin axle shafts now? There is a teralow sticker on the end of the shaft in that last pic. What's gonna be special about this Tera D50 besides less weight than a 60 and 60 ujoints? Will it have 1.5" 35spline shafts & be hp?

Probably have someone else make them like everything else they sell. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Its a upper shock mount. If you look close at the mount you can see 3 sets of holes pr side toward the middle. I guess this changes the upper mounting of the shocks.

They also tell you what it is on the rockcrawler site now....

Man, I'm curious to see how this "thing a ma bob" works. I just got done reworking that entire x-member so I'm quite familiar with the lack of space there is under the rear of a TJ with the gas tank, track bar, and UCA's.

Unless you somehow move the gas tank rearward several inches, I just don't see how there is any room to reposition the shocks.

All I can see is the red x box thingie. I just got back and saw it in person. Not surewhat "it" is though

The R/c 50 thing uses a 44 carrier with the new 33 spline axle size. Think OX and Detroit. It then goes to a CV joint thingie (not yet convinced) with the possibility to run 35 spline outers.

Sorry dudes, the pic moved to a different folder on RC's website. Check it out again, the red x should be gone.

Mike at RC has now added captions. This is what it says now

Tera showed their new shock mounting system which allows you to mount shocks in various locations.

Guess its just laying on the display and not installed

It's an IQ test to determine if the punters think it holds the muffler bearings or know that it does stuff all? :flipoff2:

Logically, it wouldn't be something to put on a functional TJ. It sits too high, thus blocking the body and the frame from contacting each other. Also, the mounted position of the bar shown, runs directly over the rear track bar. The shocks would be obstructed by the track bar and the coils' mounting pads. Having seen Tera's past displays, it's most likely a brace to keep the "display" steady. Whether it's on its side or tilted in some way, it will be difficult to deduce from the picture shown.
