Thought you guys might like to see what you guys could be up against if some of these guys decide to come to the U.S. to compete in your Top Truck Challenge next year.

we have just finished a weekend of carnage that saw 30 rigs compete for honours in our TTC.
The yellow Cruiser above got second place but the tray back below took out top rig by a mile

That Yella cruzah is BADASS!! It looks like an FJ-40 that has been redesigned as a 2002 production model. An excellent mixture of the basic designs boxy features and the curves of modern technology.

Very Impressive rigs.

And we can't have that! I mean, they migh have *gasp!* reports of the action before the magazine does! Not to mention in-depth coverage of the actual wheeling, not "show and shine."

Cool trucks! They look a little on the heavy side for our hemisphere.
Who is the main sponsor, I mean who puts on the event?

Damn that's sweet... I'm in love with that white cruiser!!!

RUFF

The main sponsor is ARB but there is a lot of smaller companies footing the bill as well. Entry fee was $660aus per rig and spectators were charged $50aus for 3 days. They had 5000+ spectators.

I was reading an Aussie 4x4 mag last year and they were doing their 4x4 of the year contest with factory rigs.

They disqualified the Grand Cherokee before the event die to the fact that it would not hold up to the rigors of the contest.

Hell, the thing wins every time in the US.

Funny.

See. thats why I dont understand why fourwheeler doesnt allow spectators. They could charge fair (i.e. 50 buck tickets) prices, and it would still sell mags!!!! Plus they would have all the proceeds to add!!! More people=more money=more sponsors=bigger manufacture's midway=more people=more money!!

Hell, they could make a killing just off the parking!!!

just my.02, but then again, what do I know
later, rob:confused:

Oh yeah, I know...I am just stating that what our 4x4 rags thing is an awesome 4 wheeling machine does not even make the cut in Australia.

Those FJ's are bad ASS! I wish someone would sponsor them over in our TTC.

few more pics here, all jeep as the photographer has a jeep good. Great bloke that he is :D

Let me tell you guys although this TJ looks like big bird took a dump on it, it is seriously built....I get the impression he can't drive it though. Oh well next year he should be a lot more experienced and might be in the running.

I don't think they can be linked directly but will try one:

I can understand why Aussies love Jeeps. Pretty much the same reason Americans love Cruisers.....if you have a Jeep in AU, you are the minority. Not many pimple faced kids with blue hair driving Jeeps...they are in Cruisers in AU.

the problem is that it make PERFECT sense, & that is why Fourwheeler won't do it.

Litigation is the name of the game, my friends. FOUR WHEELER is scared shitless of a lawsuit in case a spectator gets hurt, I can guarantee that's their MAIN concern.

Toyota de Venezuela sponsors a yearly competition called the FR4x4, it's more oriented towards endurance and navigation over extreme terrain. Six different stages throughout the year, each held in very different terrain (Amazon jungle, desert, Andes mountains, coastal swamplands, outback savanna) and each drawing more than 250 Land Cruisers. The organization is AMAZING, Toyota even provides a couple of helicopters to film the action, produces a killer video, and the First Prize for the winner is a brand spanking-new 2003 Land Cruiser FZJ80, your choice of color/specs. Take that to the bank....

I'm guessing it's his exhaust, i cant find a snorkel. What good is and exhaust that high if there isn't a snorkel to match it.

that is the exhaust. The snorkel is a pipe that comes out next to the exhaust and then stops in front of the windscreen

you can see it just above the dash

The axles on the TJ are just stock Dynatrac high pinion D60s.

You want killer custom built shiat check out the rear axle on the big yellow FJ 40. Its a high clearance nissan centre (10.5in crown I think and bit bigger than 1.5in axles with 37 splines) with rockwell outers (with wheel disk brakes on 16.5in wheels).

Check it out :

And on the white FJ45 hes got Ford 9s with custom portal outers front and rear (portal outers have 2.6:1 gearing I think)
