: Stock Axle bearing question

Does anyone know the generic part # for a stock rear axle bearing for a '87 Sammy?

Also, can the bearing retainer be reused, or is it a use it once deal. thats not such a big deal, but locally they want $55 per bearing, and I dont have alot of time to get a pair, so online will be out.

I know Hawk sells a kit for $30 per axle, but its a time thing right now.
thanks.

You wont get a retainer off in one piece, try aftermarket suppliers like napa or whatever stores you have down there, they'll be at least 50% cheaper than oem.

Haven't checked the accuracy.

Thanks for the fast responce.....any idea on the REAR bearings though, those are the ones in question.

The fronts I hope will last till the axle swap next spring so....

I have tried the NAPA and such, most want up to a week to get them, paid up front. With this being Detroit area, there are ALOT of suppliers of bearings, IF you have the actual part number. Few will look it up for you.

good info for everyone though.

thanks!!! :D

There is nothing wrong with keeping the Suzuki in the Samurai.
You can only drive it as hard as the parts you have in it. If you push it any harder, it will break. I have been running zuke drive shafts, 418 gears in the t-case , zuke stock diffs and axles without birf rings and the rear diff welded, on 33x15x15 Super Swamper Boggers all summer- approximately 1000 HARD trail miles.
I drive it through Major mud and swamps, Mountains, rocks and hills that even the mountain goats are afraid to climb. I use it for hunting Moose, Griz, Doll Sheep, Carabou, Black Bear, and Spruce Hens. I also use it to get to some of the best Salmon fishing in the world. Places that are usually out of reach to those that don't have acess to a boat or a float plane. This zuke goes places that 4 wheelers cant go. (and visaversa) but we won't talk about that.

Zukes are tough. I have had 1100 lbs of moose meat in the back of my zuke. I had to strap a hind quarter to the hood cause there wasn't any more room in the back, and my wagoneer springs couldn't carry any more back there. Couldn't get any wheel spin through the mud holes and had to winch through most of them. Not easy in these Alaska swamps where there are few or no anchor points to hook to.

Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is that ZUKES ARE TOUGH. If You are careful and are easy on the go pedal and the clutch.
There are some people that can break anything and do. I am one of them. When it comes to the zuke, I am really careful, I don't like using the ol' Shoe leather express... I Don't like walking.

as for the rear bearings, one of the local mechanics was able to remove the race to reuse it on the next bearing but it can only be done once.....got to be good to not chew it up......

As for the front bearings, after have the front driver side bearing seaze up at 85 km/h(25 foot side ways skid with 31's) I repack the bearings every three mths in the summer and once in the winter.....this saves my bearings and I'm always sure their good.....I don't have enough spare underwear to make too many skids like that.......

At the same time you should check the kingpin beearings the tend to get full of mud and seaze up....have fun and get your hands dirty.

92 Zukimoo with piston number three missing, 88 Tin top, 87 Stock soft top......all covered in mud

I just order a set from roadless gear.
It's the cheapest I found, including using the company account at local bearing distributors.
